I do a daily Bible study every day. So, this is in the middle of the current study on the Names and Character of God.
Day 284 – Forgiveness
2 Samuel 12:1 Then JEHOVAH sent Nathan to David. And he came to him and said to him, “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. 3 However, the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate his food and drank from his cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. 4 A traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; instead, he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
5 Then David’s anger was aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As JEHOVAH lives, the man who did this will die! 6 He will restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.”
7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. If that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! 9 Why have you despised the commandment of JEHOVAH, to do evil in His sight? You killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you took his wife to be your wife and killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. 10 Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised Me, and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ 11 Thus says JEHOVAH, ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. 12 For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before Israel, before the sun.’”
13 David said to Nathan, “I sinned against JEHOVAH.”
Nathan said to David, “JEHOVAH put away your sin; you will not die. 14 However, because by this deed you gave great occasion to the enemies of JEHOVAH to blaspheme, the child born to you will die.”
15 Then Nathan departed to his house. JEHOVAH struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became ill.
16 David, therefore, pleaded with Elohiym for the child, fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground.
17 Then the elders of his house arose and went to him, to raise him up from the ground. However, he would not, nor did he eat food with them.
18 Then on the seventh day it happened that the child died. The servants of David were afraid to tell him the child was dead. For they said, “Indeed, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not heed our voice. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He may do harm!”
19 When David saw his servants whispering, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore, David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?”
They said, “He is dead.”
20 Then David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and went into the house of JEHOVAH and worshiped. Then he went to his house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate.
21 Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child died, you arose and ate food.”
22 He said, “While the child lived, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether JEHOVAH will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ 23 However, now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”
24 Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife and went in to her and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now JEHOVAH loved him, 25 and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet. Then he called his name Jedidiah, because of JEHOVAH.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Theos – Supreme Divinity
Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
God’s character:
Judge
When people do something wrong, they don’t like to face the consequences but live in denial about what they did and make excuses for it.
David sinned against Elohiym when he lay with Bathsheba and told Joab to set her husband in the hottest part of the battle so he would die. He committed two sins against the Ten Commandments: adultery and murder. JEHOVAH sent Nathan to David to tell him a parable and let David know the child would die for what David did. Then told him the sword would never leave his house because of his sin. David fasted and prayed when the child became sick. He didn’t eat until after the child died to the confusion of his servants. He told his servants there was no longer a reason to fast and pray with the death of the child.
As children of Yeshuwa, you are no different than David. Every day you sin against the Ten Commandments without realizing it. It doesn’t need to be an action; it can be a thought.
Matthew 5:27 “You heard it said to those of old, ‘You will not commit adultery.’ 28 I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her already committed adultery with her in his heart.
You need to cast down the thoughts and imaginations of your heart and repent so Elohiym will forgive you.
2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in Theos for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of Theos, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christos, 6 and being ready to punish every disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
No one knows your thoughts except you and Elohiym. Don’t let Him judge you for your thoughts, confess them and He will forgive you.
Let’s pray: Father, forgive my thoughts that are contrary to Your Word. I don’t want to make excuses or deny my thoughts and actions. Cast down the thoughts and imaginations of my heart and forgive me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
