Day 313 – Trust
1 Kings 17:1 Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there will not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”
2 Then the word of JEHOVAH came to him, saying, 3 “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 4 It will happen that you will drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
5 Then he went and did according to the word of JEHOVAH, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. 7 It happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
8 Then the word of JEHOVAH came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I commanded a widow to provide for you.”
10 Then he arose and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.”
11 As she went to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12 Then she said, “As JEHOVAH your Elohiym lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13 Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel, ‘The bin of flour will not be used up, nor will the jar of oil run dry, until the day JEHOVAH sends rain on the earth.’”
15 Then she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of JEHOVAH which He spoke by Elijah.
17 Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. His sickness was serious and there was no breath left in him.
18 Then she said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, O man of Elohiym? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”
19 He said to her, “Give me your son.” Then he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he stayed and laid him on his own bed.
20 Then he cried out to JEHOVAH and said, “O JEHOVAH my Elohiym, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?” 21 He stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to JEHOVAH and said, “O JEHOVAH my Elohiym, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.”
22 Then JEHOVAH heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived.
23 Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house and gave him to his mother. Elijah said, “See, your son lives!”
24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know you are a man of Elohiym, and the word of JEHOVAH in your mouth is the truth.”
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Theos – Supreme Divinity
Iesous – Jesus
Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
God’s character:
Provider
Many people wonder where their next meal will come from. Hunger plagues many people and countries of the world. Many organizations work to supply food for the hungry.
JEHOVAH told Elijah to tell King Ahab there wouldn’t be rain until he told him it would rain again, then He told him to go to a brook where He would send a raven to feed him, and he could drink from the brook. When the brook dried up, Elohiym sent him to a widow in Zarephath.
Miracles happen when you trust Elohiym to provide everything you need. Elijah did what JEHOVAH told him, and went to the widow woman as instructed and told her Elohiym would supply flour and oil until it rained again. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, He promised to supply everything you need too.
Philippians 4:19 My Theos will supply everything you need according to His riches in glory by Christos Iesous.
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.
Sometimes it’s hard to trust what you’ve been told, especially when circumstances prove otherwise time and again in your life. Even trusting Yeshuwa becomes a learned behavior. Too often people will kick you when you’re down instead of giving you a hand up.
It wasn’t until her son died and Elijah asked JEHOVAH to bring life back to him that the widow accepted that Elohiym lived in him.
When life kicks you around, you need something or someone you can trust. It isn’t easy to trust the helping hand reaching out to you. However, when you grasp the helping hand, you will find the help you need. Trust is a slow process. We don’t know how long Elijah was with the widow before her son died. She saw the flour and oil replenished every day so it wouldn’t run out. Did she wait until one more thing happened to her to prove Elohiym would continue to help her? When her son died, she brought an accusation to Elijah. Elijah took her son and went to the room she gave him and prayed and stretched himself out on the child three times until JEHOVAH brought life back into him. Then he returned the child to his mother who then trusted Elohiym.
What will it take for you to trust Yeshuwa with your life? Sometimes the easiest thing to do is the hardest to accomplish. You took the first step when you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord. However, you also need to trust Him to supply everything you need.
As we close out the month of November, many people will gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. Take a moment to thank Yeshuwa for everything He brought you through and provided for you this year. Then trust Him to do the same in the days, months, and years until He calls you home.
A thankful heart is a loving heart.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for providing everything I need. I give You praise. Help me to always have a thankful heart for the many blessings You give me every day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
