Daily writing prompt
Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

Today, I will celebrate Thanksgiving with my son, his girlfriend, and my neighbor. There are many dishes that will grace my table today. I cook the meal. Along with the traditional turkey, green bean casserole, sweet potato pie, fresh cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes will cover my table. My neighbor will bring apple crisp, and my son requested regular pumpkin pie. It will be the first year I haven’t made no-bake pumpkin pie.

Never a lover of cranberry sauce, I made it fresh one year and everyone ate it, including me. It has been part of Thanksgiving since. No more canned cranberry sauce.

Never a lover of pumpkin anything, I found a recipe in a magazine when my children were barely out of diapers for no-bake pumpkin pie. It was an instant hit with everyone, including me.

Never a lover of sweet potatoes, my mother-in-law made sweet potato pie for the first Thanksgiving after we were married. I loved it and it became a permanent part of my Thanksgiving table.

Never a lover of stuffing, I worked hard to find a stuffing recipe I could eat and enjoy. I need it moist. I found it with a combination of onions, celery, mushrooms, apples, and raisins. The apples give it the right amount of moistness to make it delicious. This year I won’t put mushrooms in it because my neighbor doesn’t like mushrooms.

Never say never. You never know when something you don’t like will become a staple on your table.

I would love to hear what dishes you enjoy in the comments below.

Happy Thanksgiving and don’t forget to give God thanks for everything He provided for you this year.
