Day 319 – Answers
2 Kings 1:1 Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
2 Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and was injured; then he sent messengers and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover from this injury.”
3 However, the Malak of JEHOVAH said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no Elohiym in Israel that you go to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the elohiym of Ekron?’ 4 Now, therefore, thus says JEHOVAH, ‘You will not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you will die.’” Then Elijah departed.
5 When the messengers returned to him, he said to them, “Why have you come back?”
6 They said to him, “A man came to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and say to him, “Thus says JEHOVAH, ‘Is it because there is no Elohiym in Israel that you send to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the elohiym of Ekron? Therefore, you will not come down from the bed to which you went up, but you will die.’”’”
7 Then he said to them, “What kind of man was it who came to meet you and told you these words?”
8 They answered him, “A hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist.”
He said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”
9 Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. Thus, he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. He spoke to him, “Man of Elohiym, the king said, ‘Come down!’”
10 Then Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of Elohiym, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” Fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.
11 Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. He answered and said to him, “Man of Elohiym, thus the king said, ‘Come down quickly!’”
12 Elijah answered and said to them, “If I am a man of Elohiym, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” The fire of Elohiym came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.
13 Again, he sent a third captain of fifty with his fifty men. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and pleaded with him, and said to him, “Man of Elohiym, please let my life and the life of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. 14 Look, fire came down from heaven and burned up the first two captains of fifties with their fifties. However, let my life now be precious in your sight.”
15 The Malak of JEHOVAH said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” Then he arose and went down with him to the king.
16 Then he said to him, “Thus says JEHOVAH, ‘Because you sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the elohiym of Ekron, is it because there is no Elohiym in Israel to inquire of His word? Therefore, you will not come down from the bed to which you went up, but you will die.’”
17 Then Ahaziah died according to the word of JEHOVAH which Elijah had spoken. Because he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place, in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.
18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
God’s names:
Malak – Angel, Ambassador, King (pre-incarnate Christ)
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Theos – Supreme Divinity
God’s character:
Sovereign
Have you tried to do something and someone you didn’t like got in your way and told you what would happen if you pursued your course of action?
Ahaziah fell through the lattice of an upper story window and injured himself. He sent messengers to the prophets of Baal-Zebub to find out if he would recover. However, while the messengers were on their way, the prophet of JEHOVAH, Elijah the Tishbite, hated by the king of Israel, met the captain and his retinue of fifty men. He asked them if they sought a false elohiym because there wasn’t an Elohiym in Israel. Then he sent fire from heaven not once, but twice to burn up the men and their fellow messengers. When the third one arrived, the captain pleaded for his life and that of his fellow soldiers. The Malak of JEHOVAH told Elijah to go with the captain and talk to Ahaziah.
Many times, as Christians, you seek advice from other Christians on matters only Yeshuwa can help you with. Often, He is the last person you seek for answers instead of the first person you should ask. The question Elijah asked the captain is the same question Yeshuwa asks you. Is there no Elohiym in your life for you to go to for answers? It is a fair question when many Christians don’t spend time in Bible study. They haven’t opened their Bibles since they accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord. They don’t go to church, and they don’t know what Yeshuwa will do for them. They know nothing about JEHOVAH’S promises to take care of them in every situation.
Yeshuwa told the people to seek Elohiym first. He tells you to do the same thing. When you do, you will find the answers you’re looking for. When you spend time with Yeshuwa in Bible study and prayer, when you go to church to receive His Word for your life, and learn about Him, when you turn to Him before you turn to others, He will help you.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of Theos and His righteousness, and these things will be added to you.
Elohiym first. He will lead you to the answer you need.
Let’s pray: Father, You know me better than I know me. I seek answers from others before I turn to You. Help me turn to You first in everything. I want You to be first in my life. Let Your Word live in me and give me the hope I need when Satan comes against me to destroy me and my life.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
