Day 321 – Trust
2 Kings 3:1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab became king over Israel at Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah and reigned twelve years.
2 He did evil in the sight of JEHOVAH, but not like his father and mother; for he put away the sacred pillar of Baal his father had made.
3 Nevertheless, he persisted in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin; he did not depart from them.
4 Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, and he regularly paid the king of Israel one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams. 5 However, it happened, when Ahab died, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
6 Then King Jehoram went out of Samaria and mustered Israel.
7 Then he went and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?”
He said, “I will go up; I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” 8 Then he said, “Which way shall we go up?”
He answered, “By way of the Wilderness of Edom.”
9 Thus, the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom and marched on a roundabout route seven days; and there was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them.
10 The king of Israel said, “Alas! For JEHOVAH called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
11 However, Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of JEHOVAH here, that we may inquire of JEHOVAH by him?”
Then one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.”
12 Jehoshaphat said, “The word of JEHOVAH is with him.” Thus, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13 Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother.”
However, the king of Israel said to him, “No, for JEHOVAH called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
14 Elisha said, “As JEHOVAH of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not look at you, nor see you. 15 However, now bring me a musician.” Then it happened, when the musician played, the hand of JEHOVAH came upon him. 16 He said, “Thus says JEHOVAH, ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ 17 For thus says JEHOVAH, ‘You will not see wind, nor will you see rain; yet the valley will be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ 18 This is a simple matter in the sight of JEHOVAH; He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. 19 Also, you will attack every fortified city and every choice city, and will cut down every good tree, and stop up every spring of water, and ruin every good piece of land with stones.”
20 Now it happened in the morning, when they offered the grain offering, that water came by way of Edom, and the land filled with water.
21 When the Moabites heard the kings had come up to fight against them, everyone who could bear arms and older gathered; and they stood at the border.
22 Then they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water; and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood.
23 They said, “This is blood; the kings have struck swords and killed one another; now therefore, Moab, to the spoil!”
24 When they came to the camp of Israel, Israel rose up and attacked the Moabites, so they fled before them; and entered their land, killing the Moabites.
25 Then they destroyed the cities, and each man threw a stone on every good piece of land and filled it; and stopped the springs of water and cut down the good trees. However, they left the stones of Kir Haraseth intact. However, the slingers surrounded and attacked it.
26 When the king of Moab saw the battle was too fierce for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew swords, to break through to the king of Edom, but they could not. 27 Then he took his eldest son who would have reigned in his place and offered him as a burnt offering upon the wall; and there was great indignation against Israel. Then they departed from him and returned to their own land.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Deliverer
You often hear about various unions and companies going on strike against the company they work with causing chaos among everyone affected by the company. Those who work for the company aren’t the only ones affected. People go on strike for many reasons, the main reason being better pay and benefits.
Moab stopped paying tribute to the king of Israel. When he did, it caused trouble with the income for the country. King Jehoram of Israel went to King Jehoshaphat of Judah and the king of Edom to fight against Moab. When they started on the journey to fight against Moab, they ran into trouble, lack of water for them and their animals. They sought Elisha to inquire of JEHOVAH about what they needed to do. Elisha only helped them because Jehoshaphat relied on JEHOVAH. He told them what they needed to do, and JEHOVAH brought about a victory for Israel.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you agreed to let Him take care of you in every area of your life, including your income. However, many Christians pick and choose what areas they will handle in their life and trust Yeshuwa with the rest. When you don’t allow Yeshuwa to take care of every area of your life, you find yourself lacking in key areas, especially income.
The only reason Elisha sought JEHOVAH for help was because the king of Judah relied on JEHOVAH in every area of his life. It was he who asked for a prophet of JEHOVAH for council on how to defeat the Moabites. When Israel did what JEHOVAH told them, they received the victory over Moab.
When you trust Yeshuwa with every area of your life, including your income, He will bring balance and stability to your life.
Have you given your finances to Yeshuwa? What areas of your life do you hold onto? Turn them over to Yeshuwa and watch Him clear out the chaos in your life and bring peace and stability to you.
Let’s pray: Father, too often I try to take care of certain areas in my life. Help me turn over everything to You and trust You to take care of me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
