Day 333 – Promise Keeper
2 Kings 9:1 Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, “Get yourself ready, take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead. 2 When you arrive, look for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, and go in and make him rise from among his associates, and take him to an inner room. 3 Then take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, ‘Thus says JEHOVAH, “I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee, and do not delay.”
4 Then the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When he arrived, there were the captains of the army sitting; and he said, “I have a message for you, Commander.”
Jehu said, “For which one of us?”
He said, “For you, Commander.”
6 Then he arose and went into the house. He poured the oil on his head, and said to him, “Thus says JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel, ‘I have anointed you king over the people of JEHOVAH, over Israel. 7 You will strike down the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of the servants of JEHOVAH, at the hand of Jezebel. 8 For the whole house of Ahab will perish; and I will cut off from Ahab the males in Israel, both bond and free. 9 Thus, I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. 10 The dogs will eat Jezebel on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and there will be none to bury her.’” Then he opened the door and fled.
11 Then Jehu came out to the servants of his master, and one said to him, “Is everything well? Why did this madman come to you?”
He said to them, “You know the man and his babble.”
12 They said, “A lie! Tell us now.”
Then he said, “Thus and thus he spoke to me, saying, ‘Thus says JEHOVAH, “I have anointed you king over Israel.”’”
13 Then each man hastened to take his garment and put it under him on the top of the steps; and they blew trumpets, saying, “Jehu is king!”
14 Thus, Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had been defending Ramoth Gilead, he and Israel, against Hazael king of Syria.
15 However, King Joram had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which the Syrians inflicted on him when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) Jehu said, “If you are so minded, let no one leave or escape from the city to go and tell it in Jezreel.”
16 Then Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram was laid up there; and Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.
17 Now a watchman stood on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, “I see a company of men.”
Joram said, “Get a horseman and send him to meet them, and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’”
18 Then the horseman went to meet him, and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’”
Jehu said, “What have you to do with peace? Turn around and follow me.”
Then the watchman reported, saying, “The messenger went to them, but is not coming back.”
19 Then he sent out a second horseman who came to them, and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’”
Jehu answered, “What have you to do with peace? Turn around and follow me.”
20 Then the watchman reported, saying, “He went up to them and is not coming back; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously!”
21 Then Joram said, “Make ready.” They made ready his chariot. Then Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu and met him on the property of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?”
Then he answered, “What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?”
23 Then Joram turned around and fled, and said to Ahaziah, “Treachery, Ahaziah!”
24 Jehu drew his bow with full strength and shot Jehoram between his arms; and the arrow came out at his heart, and he sank down in his chariot.
25 Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, “Pick him up, and throw him into the tract of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember, when you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father, that JEHOVAH laid this burden upon him: 26 ‘I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,’ says JEHOVAH, ‘and I will repay you in this plot,’ says JEHOVAH. Now, therefore, take and throw him on the plot of ground, according to the word of the JEHOVAH.”
27 However, when Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled by the road to Beth Haggan. Then Jehu pursued him, and said, “Shoot him also in the chariot.” They shot him at the Ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. Then he fled to Megiddo and died there.
28 His servants carried him in the chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the City of David.
29 In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king over Judah.
30 Now when Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head and looked through a window.
31 Then, as Jehu entered the gate, she said, “Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?”
32 He looked up at the window, and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” Then two or three eunuchs looked out at him. 33 Then he said, “Throw her down.” Then they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot.
34 When he had gone in, he ate and drank. Then he said, “Go now, see to this accursed woman, and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.”
35 Then they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.
36 Therefore, they came back and told him. He said, “This is the word of JEHOVAH, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ‘On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel; 37 and the corpse of Jezebel will be as refuse on the surface of the field, in the plot at Jezreel, so that they will not say, “Here lies Jezebel.”’”

God’s character:
Promise Keeper
How often do you keep your promises? How often do you wait for someone to keep their promise to you? It’s easier to remember what someone promised you than for you to remember what you promised someone else.
JEHOVAH never forgets a promise. Elisha sent a prophet to anoint Jehu as king of Israel and told him what he needed to do to the house of Ahab. It took a while for the prophecy JEHOVAH gave Elijah the Tishbite regarding the house of Ahab. However, Jehu saw the fulfillment of JEHOVAH’S promise to Ahab.
What did Yeshuwa promise you as His child when you accepted Him as Savior and Lord? Have you seen the fulfillment of His promise? You will.
Yeshuwa’s promise to you is for the salvation of your household.
Acts 16:31 Then they said, “Believe on the Kurios Iesous Christos, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
2 Peter 3:9 The Kurios is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that everyone should come to repentance.
Our timing is not Yeshuwa’s timing. For some people, salvation comes on the deathbed.
He promised to heal you. Forgive you. Redeem you and renew you.
Ps 103:1 (A Psalm of David.) Bless JEHOVAH, O my soul; And everything within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless JEHOVAH, O my soul, and forget not His benefits: 3 Who forgives your iniquities, who heals your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 JEHOVAH executes righteousness and justice for everyone who is oppressed.
7 He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.
8 JEHOVAH is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
9 He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever.
10 He did not deal with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father pities his children, so JEHOVAH pities those who fear Him.
14 For He knows our frame; He remembers we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
17 However, the mercy of JEHOVAH is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, 18 to such as keep His covenant, and to those who remember His commandments to do them.
19 JEHOVAH established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over everyone.
20 Bless JEHOVAH, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word.
21 Bless JEHOVAH, you His hosts, you ministers of His, who do His pleasure.
22 Bless JEHOVAH, His works, In every place of His dominion. Bless JEHOVAH, O my soul!
Every blessing, every promise He gave His chosen people, JEHOVAH gave to you. You only need to believe, trust, and act on His promises. He hasn’t forgotten a single promise to His people. Praise Him today for the fulfillment of His promises to you, even though they haven’t come about yet.
Joshua 21:45 Not a word failed of any good thing which JEHOVAH had spoken to the house of Israel. Everything came to pass.
He will do the same for you.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for keeping Your promises to me, even though I haven’t seen their fulfillment yet in my life. When I moan and complain about Your unseen promises, remind me that You aren’t slow in keeping Your promises because Your time isn’t my time. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
