I never had a lot of friends because I weigh their character and reputations against my core values. When I was in my grade school and high school years, I tried to fit in, but couldn’t. I saw through the exterior facade of the people I wanted to be friends with.
When I left home, my core values stayed with me. However, if there was one instance when I was a poor judge of character, it would be with the man I married. He wasn’t bad or harmful. His values and mine clashed, and though we were married for 21 years, it ended amicably.
When I accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord, my core values became more important in my life. I weighed friendships with the help of the Holy Spirit in my life. Today, I have many wonderful acquaintances, and several good friends all of whom share my core values.
