Since childhood, I hated everything connected to politics. My father was heavy into politics. His world revolved around it. He went to political rallies, worked at the election polls, and tried to tell me which party was the best. Because of his involvement in politics, it turned me off to everything political.
It doesn’t mean I’m ignorant of what the candidates stand for, or that I don’t vote in the elections. I voted in every election since I turned 18. However, I use my best judgment and prayer to determine which candidate is best. Often my father harrassed me over my choice for president. He heckled me and told me what kind of person I voted for. It didn’t stop me from voting my conscience.
I don’t let anyone tell me who to vote for or not vote for. I look at the facts and learn what I can about the candidates. Not what the media tries to promote. It’s not easy and often I’m on the opposite side of public opinion. I’d rather be on the opposite side when it comes to what I’m looking for in a candidate and what they truly believe, than to go blindly into the fray and vote according to public opinion.
