Do I play? I’m 71 years old. Should I play at my age? Shouldn’t I act mature and not childish?
When I was young and living at home, I saw how my mother acted. She didn’t play. I told myself I would not be like her and would have fun every day.
Of all the promises I made to myself when I was young, that’s one I can safely say, I kept. I like to play and have fun. I’m here, aren’t I? This is fun for me. I love being around other people. The world is my playground. I might not know you personally, but for the few minutes I spend here every day, I get to know a little bit about you.
In my personal life, my playtime covers time spent with friends. Every Thursday, holidays excluded, I play Canasta with several ladies in the complex where I live. It’s fun. We laugh, eat snacks, and have a wonderful time. On two Wednesdays a month, I go to the Senior Center and paint rocks.

Everyday, except Sunday, I write. I work on books either writing or editing to publish. Writing is fun. I like weaving a story people will enjoy. Sunday is my day off. I’m only on the computer long enough to work on my Bible study and post it to the several places I send it, and answer the prompt for the day here. Then, I’m off the computer until Monday.
Sunday, is a day of relaxation and fun. Total fun. I watch movies or the home team football game. My home town is home to an American football team. Sunday, we play our last season game and then the playoffs. The home team made the playoffs this year. It will be interesting to see if we can make it all the way to the Super Bowl. I don’t think so. There are two teams in our division we could not beat this year. My home team has won four Super Bowl’s and many championship games before the Super Bowl started in the late 1960s. In fact, the home team won the first two Super Bowl’s. With the many winning games we have, our nickname is Title Town. So, I enjoy watching the game and will continue to watch it as long as we win during the playoffs.
I also like playing computer games. Though my interest in them doesn’t last more than a few months. Then I’m back to doing what matters most – Writing. Writing has been part of my life since I was eight years old. I don’t see it stopping before the Lord calls me home. I think it will be a while yet before that happens. I still have many books in me to write.
How about you? What constitutes play for you? Thank you for reading. The image above is a rock I painted last year. In case you don’t know the name of that bird, it’s a kingfisher. I only know because the picture had the name of the bird when I painted it.
