Every day I can find several reasons for my thankfulness and the many blessings God gives me in my life. Today, my reasons are closer to home. It was a sober day in the complex and building where I live. I live in a 55+ senior living complex, meaning you need to be at least 55 years old to live here. For many of the people living here, it’s the last place they live before they move into an assisted living facility or nursing home. For some, it’s the last place they live.

This morning the ambulance came here twice. The first one was for the gentleman who lives across the hall from me. The second was for another gentleman who lives on the other end of the floor I live on. While I hope for the best for each of these men, I found out the mortuary was here yesterday for another gentleman on the second floor.

It was a sobering day as I came face to face with friends who faced life situations and a wife who said goodbye to her husband. I didn’t see her today. I didn’t expect to see her. However, it gives me pause to reflect on my life and how quickly a moment can turn into eternity.

I am thankful for the life God gave me, for my friends, for my family. I know if God were to call me home today, I know where I will spend eternity. I have confidence in my God who loves me and calls me His own.

Do you know where you will spend eternity when that last moment comes? I can say with Job: Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: 27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
(KJV)

Are you thankful for your life today? You never know when the last moment will come and you face eternity.

Thanks for reading.
