Day 24 – Protection
2 Chronicles 22:1 Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for the raiders who came with the Arabians into the camp had killed the older sons. So Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigned. 2 Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah, the granddaughter of Omri. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother advised him to do wickedly. 4 Therefore, he did evil in the sight of JEHOVAH, like the house of Ahab; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction. 5 He also followed their advice and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
6 Then he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah, the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
7 Elohiym sought occasion for Ahaziah’s downfall with his going to Joram; for when he arrived, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, who JEHOVAH had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
8 It happened, when Jehu executed judgment on the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers who served Ahaziah, that he killed them.
9 Then he searched for Ahaziah; and they caught him (he was hiding in Samaria) and brought him to Jehu. When they had killed him, they buried him, “because,” they said, “he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought JEHOVAH with his whole heart.” Thus, no one of the house of Ahaziah could assume power over the kingdom.
10 Now when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed the royal heirs of the house of Judah. 11 However, Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons whom Athaliah murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. Thus, Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him. 12 He was hidden with them in the house of Elohiym for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Protector
What do you do when things go from bad to worse?
Ahaziah became king in Jerusalem and was as wicked as his father. Raiders from Arabia killed the sons of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat. Jehu killed everyone of the house of Ahab, including Ahaziah. Then Athaliah, Ahaziah’s grandmother killed the heirs to the throne of Judah except one, Joash because his sister saved him alive and took him to Jehoiada the priest who hid him for six years in the temple of Elohiym.
JEHOVAH promised David there would always be a son on the throne and the Messiah would come from his lineage. From the beginning, Satan determined to destroy every heir to the throne. He started in the Garden of Eden when he caused Adam and Eve to sin. He thought to avert JEHOVAH’S plan for a Savior, but didn’t succeed as Elohiym kept Adam’s seed alive through Abraham down to David, when JEHOVAH further promised his Son would sit on the throne forever.
When Athaliah killed the king’s sons, heirs to the throne, she thought to cut off the lineage of David. However, JEHOVAH thwarted her plans when He kept one of Ahaziah’s sons alive.
Satan couldn’t kill Yeshuwa, JEHOVAH’S Son, when He died on Calvary and rose on the third day destroying Satan’s power over death. Therefore, he tries to destroy your faith in Yeshuwa. He will do it by any means at his disposal. However, when you stand strong in your faith, never wavering, Satan can do nothing to you.
Elohiym will always protect His people. He will protect you because you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord. When you trust Him, rely on Him, spend time with Him in Bible study and prayer, devote your day to Him, Satan can do nothing against you.
Your life might look disastrous with everything Satan brings against you to destroy your faith, but when you stand in every trial, you will prevail.
Jehoshabeath kept Joash alive. When you hide yourself in Yeshuwa, He will protect you from every evil Satan determines against you.
What problems do you face? Put your trust in Yeshuwa and He will protect you.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your promise to protect me from Satan when I trust in You. Strengthen my faith when Satan comes against me so I will always stand victorious in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
