Daily writing prompt
If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?

Back in 1975 the federal government made it illegal for parents to discipline their children. They called it child abuse and parents could and did have their children taken away from them whenever some high minded busy body decided to call the police on the parent disciplining their children.

I would give this right back to the parents. The government should have no right over how parents raise and discipline their children unless there is just cause and the child is in true endangerment from their parents or guardians.

I am a victim of this law. My oldest son was taken from my home because I dared to spank him. I dared to discipline him. I dared to show my children I loved them by giving them guidelines for proper behavior. My daughter too ended up in Juvenile detention with her lawyer and we, her parents, were told we could not sit in with her and her lawyer. We had no say in what took place between her and the judicial system.

My oldest son believed what the system told him, that I brainwashed him and abused him because I disciplined him. He was out of my home from the age of 12 until 17. My daughter was 15 when she faced the judge for her ‘criminal’ behavior and was in Juvenile Detention for two years. Then she was given foster parents. While in the care of the government, she did whatever she wanted and became pregnant.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Ephesians 6:4 You, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Pr 22:15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him.

I’ve done nothing more than try to raise my children according to right and wrong. For that I was punished. Only one child wasn’t taken from my home. Today, I have a good relationship with my daughter and younger son. My older son believed the system and disowned me.

Thank you for reading.
