Day 34 – Prayer
2 Chronicles 32:1 After these deeds of faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and entered Judah; he encamped against the fortified cities, thinking to win them over to himself.
2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that his purpose was to make war against Jerusalem, 3 he consulted with his leaders and commanders to stop the water from the springs which were outside the city; and they helped him.
4 Thus many people gathered who stopped the springs and the brook that ran through the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find much water?”
5 He strengthened himself, built up the wall that was broken, raised it up to the towers, and built another wall outside; also, he repaired the Millo in the City of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance. 6 Then he set military captains over the people, gathered them together with him in the open square of the city gate, and gave them encouragement, saying, 7 “Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before the multitude with him; for there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is JEHOVAH our Elohiym, to help us and to fight our battles.” Then the people were strengthened by the words of Hezekiah, the king of Judah.
9 After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem (but he and the forces with him laid siege against Lachish), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to everyone from Judah who were in Jerusalem, saying, 10 “Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, ‘In what do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem? 11 Does not Hezekiah persuade you to give yourselves over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, “JEHOVAH our Elohiym will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria”? 12 Has not the same Hezekiah taken away His high places and His altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, “You will worship before one altar and burn incense on it”? 13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to the peoples of other lands? Were the elohiym of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their lands out of my hand? 14 Who was there among the elohiym of those nations that my father’s destroyed that could deliver his people from my hand, that your Elohiym should deliver you from my hand? 15 Now, therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or persuade you like this, and do not believe him; for no elohiym of any nation or kingdom could deliver his people from my hand or the hand of my fathers. How much less will your Elohiym deliver you from my hand?’”
16 Furthermore, his servants spoke against JEHOVAH Elohiym and against His servant Hezekiah.
17 He also wrote letters to revile JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, “As the elohiym of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the Elohiym of Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my hand.”
18 Then they called out with a loud voice in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem on the wall, to frighten them and trouble them, that they might take the city. 19 They spoke against the Elohiym of Jerusalem, as against the elohiym of the people of the earth—the work of men’s hands.
20 Now because of this King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried out to heaven.
21 Then JEHOVAH sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. Thus, he returned shamefaced to his own land. When he went into the temple of his elohiym, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.
22 Thus JEHOVAH saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, and from the hand of everyone else, and guided them on every side.
23 Many brought gifts to JEHOVAH at Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah, so he was exalted in the sight of the nations thereafter.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Deliverer
How do you respond when everything is going well in your life, and someone comes along and wants to destroy everything you achieved?
Hezekiah had successfully turned the hearts of Israel back to JEHOVAH. He got rid of every idol, tore down the altars in the high places, and celebrated Passover not for eight days, but for sixteen days. Everyone gathered in Jerusalem felt the jubilation of JEHOVAH’S presence in their lives. Then Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, came against Jerusalem, expecting to take it as easily as he did the other nations he subdued. However, Hezekiah stood against him along with Isaiah in prayer to JEHOVAH, and He delivered him from Sennacherib and his army. When Sennacherib went home in defeat, his children killed him when he went into the temple of his elohiym.
As Christians, you know how Satan can come against you when your life in Yeshuwa is on the high ground. You’ve seen Yeshuwa work in your life, you’ve been faithful in everything He asked of you, and then Satan comes against you to destroy your relationship with Yeshuwa. How do you respond? Do you do as Hezekiah did and ask people to come alongside you to pray for Yeshuwa’s deliverance from Satan’s attack on your life, or do you try to take on Satan alone?
Many Christians, standing on the high ground of victory in Yeshuwa believe they can take on Satan without Yeshuwa’s help, not realizing, they need His help to keep Satan from them.
You need to stand together in prayer against Satan’s attack on your life. When you do, you will see your enemy defeated and destroyed. Sennacherib’s children killed him. You can cut off Satan’s head and destroy him from attacking you and everyone who belongs to you, family, and friend. You do not fight your battles alone. You need to ask fellow believers to pray with you as Hezekiah asked Isaiah to pray with him for the deliverance of Israel from Sennacherib’s hand. When you do, Satan will flee from you in defeat. You will have cut off the head of the beast with your prayers.
What are you waiting for? You know the trouble Satan brought against you. Pray and watch Yeshuwa destroy every plan Satan brought against you. Yeshuwa will deliver you from Satan’s hand and you will rejoice in His victory in your life.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for being my King and my God, for standing with me when I pray for deliverance from Satan’s attack on my life. Remind me that I cannot go through this life without Your help. I need You every hour and moment of my day. I cannot do life without You fighting for me. When Satan attacks, let me remind him that he’s powerless when I pray. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
