Day 36 – Humble Yourself
2 Chronicles 33:1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king and reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. 2 However, he did evil in the sight of JEHOVAH, according to the abominations of the nations whom JEHOVAH had cast out before the children of Israel. 3 For rebuilding the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; he raised altars for the Baals and made wooden images; and worshiped the host of heaven and served them. 4 He also built altars in the house of JEHOVAH, of which JEHOVAH had said, “In Jerusalem will My name be forever.” 5 He built altars for the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of JEHOVAH. 6 Also, he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of JEHOVAH, to provoke Him to anger. 7 He even set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of Elohiym, of which Elohiym had said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever; 8 and I will not again remove the foot of Israel from the land which I appointed for your fathers—only if they are careful to do everything I commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.” 9 Thus Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do more evil than the nations whom JEHOVAH had destroyed before the children of Israel.
10 JEHOVAH spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they would not listen. 11 Therefore, JEHOVAH brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him off to Babylon.
12 Now when he was in affliction, he implored JEHOVAH his Elohiym and humbled himself greatly before the Elohiym of his fathers, 13 and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that JEHOVAH was Elohiym.
14 After this he built a wall outside the City of David on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, as far as the entrance of the Fish Gate; and it enclosed Ophel, and he raised it to a great height. Then he put military captains in the fortified cities of Judah. 15 He took away the foreign elohiym and the idol from the house of JEHOVAH, and the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of JEHOVAH and in Jerusalem; and he cast them out of the city. 16 He also repaired the altar of JEHOVAH, sacrificed peace offerings and thank offerings on it, and commanded Judah to serve JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel.
17 Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed on the high places, but only to JEHOVAH their Elohiym.
18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, his prayer to his Elohiym, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of JEHOVAH Elohiym of Israel, indeed they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. 19 Also, his prayer and how Elohiym received his entreaty, and his sin and trespass, and the sites where he built high places and set up wooden images and carved images, before he was humbled, indeed they are written among the sayings of Hozai.
20 Then Manasseh rested with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house. Then his son Amon reigned in his place.
21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned for two years in Jerusalem. 22 However, he did evil in the sight of JEHOVAH, as his father Manasseh had done; for Amon sacrificed to the carved images which his father Manasseh had made and served them. 23 He did not humble himself before JEHOVAH, as his father Manasseh had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.
24 Then his servants conspired against him and killed him in his house. 25 However, the people of the land executed those who had conspired against King Amon. Then the people of the land made his son Josiah king in his place.

Children rebel against their parents. It’s what they do. They don’t want to live under the strict rules they grew up with but want to forge their destiny, shape their future, and do it on their terms.
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became Judah’s next king. He was born to Hezekiah after Elohiym healed him of the sickness that should have led to his death. Instead, JEHOVAH tacked fifteen years onto his life. Manasseh didn’t see the good his father did in Judah and how he served Him with his whole heart. However, he heard the stories of his father’s faithfulness and how JEHOVAH delivered Judah from the king of Assyria. Manasseh carved out his destiny by worshiping false elohiym. When JEHOVAH’S anger overflowed toward him, He sent the Assyrian army against him and brought him in chains to Assyria. Then Manasseh humbled himself before JEHOVAH. He returned to Jerusalem where he broke and tore down everything, he built to false elohiym and served Elohiym with his whole heart.
When Manasseh died, his son, Amon followed in his early footsteps, serving the Baals and made himself more abominable in JEHOVAH’S eyes than his father, and never humbled himself before Elohiym. Therefore, his servants conspired against him and killed him.
What was your life like before you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord? Were you a rebel like Manasseh who did whatever he wanted and provoked JEHOVAH’S anger? Or were you an okay person who realized you needed a Savior the first time someone told you about His love and sacrifice for you? However, you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, the important thing is that you did. You humbled yourself before Yeshuwa and committed to serve Him with your whole heart.
How’s that going for you? Do you still rebel or are you faithful to Yeshuwa in everything? When you look back at your former life, it should be easy to accept what Yeshuwa offers without a second thought of rebellion. However, walking the walk and talking the talk of the Christian life isn’t easy when Satan comes along and trips you up at every opportunity.
Manasseh prayed and humbled himself before JEHOVAH and turned his entire life around without a second glance at his former life. When you humble yourself before Yeshuwa and determine to live only for Him, He will lead you along the narrow path. You will not travel the narrow path alone. Yeshuwa walks beside you and other believers will align themselves with you when you falter, as we all do, and pray with you to stay close to Yeshuwa so that Satan can’t destroy your life anymore.
Satan hates it when you pray. He will flee from you at the name of Yeshuwa. He hates it when you spend time with Yeshuwa in His Word, in Bible study, and in church with other believers, learning what you need to do to destroy Satan’s stronghold on your life. It’s a daily battle. You need to be on your guard, so he won’t destroy your life.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
9 Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
James 4:7 Therefore, submit to Theos. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
You have weapons at your disposal when Satan comes against you. Use them. Prayer is number one. Reading Yeshuwa’s Word will keep you grounded in Him. Spending time with other believers will ground you in your faith. Satan doesn’t stand a chance when you stand against him in Yeshuwa’s armor.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Kurios and in the power of His might.
11 Put on the whole armor of Theos, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.
13 Therefore, take up the whole armor of Theos, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above everything, taking the shield of faith with which you can quench the fiery darts of the wicked one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Pneuma, which is the word of Theos; 18 praying always with prayer and supplication in the Pneuma, being watchful to this end with perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Satan doesn’t stand a chance against you. His only recourse is to flee from you.
Let’s pray: Father, give me a humble spirit so I remain faithful to You in everything. Let Your praise come easily to my lips as I pray for Your guidance in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
