When it comes to saying ‘no’, I have a hard time saying it to my family. Who can turn down that face? Not me. At least not for a long time. Even now, if my children need me and I can help them, I will do whatever it takes to help them.
That said, I have learned to say no to family members, whose only agenda is for self and not for others. All my children got in trouble and needed bailing out. I didn’t bail them out. I let them sit for the three days, hoping it would teach them a valuable lesson. For one person, it never helped. Not the one pictured above. He’s a good kid, yes, he sat for a few days and learned his lesson in doing so.
People here where I live ask me to do things for them. If I can, I do. I dog sit for three people here who need it. Right now, my next door neighbor needs my help, however, with the cold I have, I can’t help and she’s aware of my limitations.
No, is the hardest word to say, and I had a hard time saying it for many years. Only when I realized that the more I helped the worse I was treated and taken advantage of, did I start employing that little word. I find understanding now when I tell people ‘no’.
How about you? Do you have a hard time saying no? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me, my youngest son.
