Daily writing prompt
How has technology changed your job?

I’m a Baby Boomer, born in 1953. We had the industrial age but not the technological age. Technology didn’t happen until after I graduated from high school. It was still in the early years when I was in college in the 90s.

When I was in school we didn’t have computers, we had libraries. We didn’t look things up on the Internet, we looked them up in card catalogs in the library. A skill I wasn’t good at. I preferred just heading for the rows of books.

We didn’t write our papers or do our homework with the aid of computers. We used paper and pencil or pen, with the aid of resource materials.

Today is much different from those early years of my life. It wasn’t until after my divorce that the computer became part of my life. It’s easier to look things up on the Internet. Find all my resources and information in one place. However, nothing will ever really replace books as source material.

Everything I do today is on the computer. Every word I write, and most of the source material I find here. Though, when I can’t find it here because keywords elude me, I still have my resource books to help when I can’t find what I’m looking for here.

The computer isn’t perfect, but it is better than spending hours with pen and paper, researching in the library, and spending countless hours away from home. Now, everything is at my fingertips, literally.

Yes, technology changed my life for the better. I know what I would do without it, but prefer not to face that situation.

Thanks for reading. How did technology change your life? Let me know in the comments. The image belongs to me.
