Day 71 – Boundaries

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared Elohiym and shunned evil. 2 Seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a large household, so that this man was the greatest of the people of the East.

4 His sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

5 Thus, it happened, when the days of feasting had run their course, Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed Elohiym in their hearts.” Thus, Job did regularly.

6 Now there was a day when the sons of Elohiym came to present themselves before JEHOVAH, and Satan also came among them. 7 JEHOVAH said to Satan, “Where do you come from?”

Then Satan answered JEHOVAH and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

8 Then JEHOVAH said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears Elohiym and shuns evil?”

9 Then Satan answered JEHOVAH and said, “Does Job fear Elohiym for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around everything he has on every side? You blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 However, now, stretch out Your hand and touch everything he has, and he will curse You to Your face!”

12 JEHOVAH said to Satan, “Behold, everything he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” Then Satan went out from the presence of JEHOVAH.

13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house; 14 and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, 15 when the Sabeans raided them and took them away—indeed they killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

16 While he still spoke, another also came and said, “The fire of Elohiym fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them; and I alone escaped to tell you!”

17 While he still spoke, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone escaped to tell you!”

18 While he still spoke, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone escaped to tell you!”

20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked will I return. JEHOVAH gave, and JEHOVAH has taken away; blessed be the name of JEHOVAH.”

22 In everything Job did not sin nor charge Elohiym with wrong.

God’s character:

Hedge of Protection

What do you do when your entire life falls apart; everything you own, and your family gone in one day? Natural disasters destroy lives in the blink of an eye. Hurricanes, typhoons, mudslides, tornadoes, cyclones, wildfires destroy everything in their wake.

Job loved Elohiym and worshiped Him daily. He sacrificed for his children in case they dishonored Elohiym. He left nothing to chance in his devotion to Elohiym. Into this picture of worship and praise, Satan came against Job when he presented himself before JEHOVAH. He begged for the opportunity to bring trouble to Job, and JEHOVAH told him he could do whatever he wanted but to leave Job alone. He gave Satan boundaries. In one day, Job lost everything, including his children. When the last person gave his report, Job worshiped Elohiym.

Do you know that when you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, He put a hedge of protection around you so that Satan couldn’t harm you? Yet trouble still finds you. Satan goes before JEHOVAH to ask Him for permission to bring trouble against you. Satan wants to know how strong your faith is.

Revelation 12:9 Then the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our Theos, and the power of His Christos have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our Theos day and night, has been cast down.

Just because you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord doesn’t mean Satan won’t try to destroy your faith. If your faith is weak, it won’t take much for him to come against you and turn you away from Yeshuwa. Instead of blaming Satan for your trouble, you blame Yeshuwa.

James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by Theos”; for Theos cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.

14 However, each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Pater of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be the kind of first fruits of His creatures.

Yeshuwa doesn’t tempt anyone. Satan does. If you find the hedge Elohiym put around you when you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord is gone, don’t blame Yeshuwa. Confront Satan and stand firm in your faith as Job did. Then you will recognize your trouble as a test of your faith and not its destruction.

James 1:2 My brethren, count it joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

4 However, let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

You will face temptation. When it comes let your faith rise to meet its challenges and you will see Yeshuwa working on your behalf.

Let’s pray: Father, strengthen my faith so I don’t blame You when trouble comes, and Satan tries to destroy my life and faith. Instead, let me worship and praise You in everything, giving You the glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
