Daily writing prompt
Have you ever been camping?

I was probably told to smile for the camera. That’s me in the middle, the oldest. Mom and Dad took us camping every year from the moment I was born until I was 17 years old. I remember I had a physical while they went camping that year and the next year, I didn’t go either. I had just graduated from high school and had other plans beside spending two weeks in the above tent in the rain.

Though my sister isn’t smiling, she loves camping. So did my brother. Though on one occasion, he decided to hitchhike home. Mom and Dad were frantic and had the police out searching for him. At the time I thought it was funny that he just up and left and went home.

You couldn’t get me inside a tent anymore, or on a camping trip unless I can do so in a hotel room, which we did at one family reunion. My husband, son, and myself booked a hotel room for the three days. Mom and Dad offered to let me stay with them in the tent. NOT ON YOUR LIFE! I had enough of camping.

Camping meant sitting in a tent for two weeks while it rained and Dad sat in a boat fishing. Not my idea of fun. Oh, the dog in the picture is Fritzie. She was a good dog. Though I don’t know if she liked camping. She didn’t stay in the tent for two weeks. Dad took her fishing with him.

Do you like camping? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.
