Day 103 – Prayer
Psalm 4:1 (To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.) Hear me when I call, O Elohiym of my righteousness! You relieve me in my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. 2 How long, O you sons of men, will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood? Selah
3 However, know that JEHOVAH set apart for Himself him who is godly; JEHOVAH will hear when I call Him. 4 Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed and be still. Selah
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put your trust in JEHOVAH. 6 There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?” JEHOVAH, lift the light of Your countenance upon us. 7 You put gladness in my heart, more than in the season their grain and wine increased. 8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O JEHOVAH, make me dwell in safety.
God’s names:
- Elohiym – Supreme God
- JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
- Yeshuwa – Jesus
- Theos – Supreme Divinity
God’s character:
- Righteous
- Merciful
- Listener
- Protector
What do you do when people turn against you? Many people moan and complain about their lot in life.
David prayed and turned his troubles over to JEHOVAH to help him against those who came against him. He knew Elohiym would hear him. David also knew JEHOVAH would be merciful to him. Then David gave advice to those who trusted Elohiym.
- He told them not to be angry and sin.
- He told them to meditate in their hearts on their beds.
- He told them to offer sacrifices of righteousness.
- He told them to put their trust in JEHOVAH
David then turned his prayer to JEHOVAH and asked Him to lift the light of His countenance on him. He acknowledged that JEHOVAH put gladness in his heart and gave him peaceful sleep because He kept him safe.
David prayed the prayer JEHOVAH gave Moses in the wilderness to pray over His people.
Numbers 6:24 “JEHOVAH bless you and keep you; 25 JEHOVAH make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26 JEHOVAH lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.”’
How often as Christians do you forget these simple steps David took to ensure his peace and safety?
Paul gave the same advice to the Ephesian Christians.
Ephesians 4:26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil. (NKJV)
JEHOVAH told Joshua to meditate on the law.
Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law will not depart from your mouth, but you will meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to everything written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Paul told the Romans to offer themselves as living sacrifices to Theos.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of Theos, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to Theos, which is your reasonable service.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of Theos.
When you put your faith and trust in Yeshuwa, He will enable you to live in peace and safety. Satan will do everything he can to come against you just as he did to David. However, David trusted Elohiym to keep him safe because he meditated on Elohiym’s Word. When you do the same, reading and studying Yeshuwa’s Word, Satan will find it difficult to come against you.
Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!
Being a Christian isn’t easy. Satan comes against you every day to cause you to sin and forget to trust Him. However, when you keep the light of Yeshuwa’s Word in your heart, he will flee from you.
James 4:7 Therefore submit to Theos. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
The only way to live in peace and safety and have a restful night’s sleep is to keep Yeshuwa’s Word in your heart and on your lips.
Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word live in my heart and life. Let me seek You as often as Satan comes against me so that my sleep will be peaceful because You keep me safe. Thank you for Your daily mercies toward me and hearing me when I pray. Keep anger far from me so I will not sin against You. Let my life be a living sacrifice to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
