Day 118 – Delight
Psalm 19:1 (To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.) The heavens declare the glory of Elohiym; and the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out throughout the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them He set a tabernacle for the sun, 5 which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber and rejoices like a strong man to run its race. 6 Its rising is from one end of heaven, and its circuit to the other end; nothing is hidden from its heat. 7 The law of JEHOVAH is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of JEHOVAH is sure, making the simple wise; 8 the statutes of JEHOVAH are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of JEHOVAH is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of JEHOVAH is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of JEHOVAH are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired than gold, yea, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. 13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I will be blameless, and I will be innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O JEHOVAH, my strength and my Redeemer.
God’s names:
Elohiym – Supreme God
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Strength
Redeemer
Have you ever laid on the ground on a warm summer night and gazed into the night sky? (Before light pollution took the stars from view.) It is a glorious sight.
David stood in awe of JEHOVAH’S majesty when he declared what he saw in the night sky. He told how even the stars declared the work of JEHOVAH’S hands.
Then David described the effect of JEHOVAH’S law.
- Its perfection to convert the soul
- Sureness of the testimony, making the simple wise
- Rightness of the statutes, making the heart rejoice
- Purity of His commandments, enlightening the eyes
- Eternal endurance of His reverence
- True and righteous judgments
David rejoiced in JEHOVAH’S law. It was his daily delight. Then David asked JEHOVAH to keep him from presumptuous sin and let the meditation of his heart be pleasing to Him.
How often do you as Christians, delight in Yeshuwa’s Word? How often do you stare into the heavens and see His handiwork? How often do you repent and ask Yeshuwa to keep you from sinning?
Christianity isn’t a once and done conversion of your soul. It’s daily maintenance by reading and studying Yeshuwa’s Word. When you do, you nourish your soul in the same way you feed your body. Your soul cannot thrive without daily nourishment in Yeshuwa’s Word.
When you spend time with Yeshuwa daily, you will have the same delight in Yeshuwa as David did in JEHOVAH. You will rely on Him the same as David did and you will see victory in your life as David did and give Yeshuwa the credit for your victory.
The next time you look into the heavens and see JEHOVAH’S handiwork, give Him praise. Rejoice in your salvation and sing His praises because He is your delight.
Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word be my daily delight as I see Your handiwork in the earth around me. Let me rejoice in Your creation, and keep me from presumptuous sin, so that my meditation will be pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
