Day 19 – Sacrifice
Psalm 22:1 (To the Chief Musician. Set to “The Deer of the Dawn.” A Psalm of David.) My Elohiym, My Elohiym, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of My groaning? 2 O my Elohiym, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; and in the night season and am not silent. 3 However, You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them. 5 They cried to You, and were delivered; they trusted in You, and were not ashamed. 6 However, I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people. 7 Those who see me ridicule me; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 “He trusted in JEHOVAH, let Him rescue him; let Him deliver him, since he delights in Him!” 9 However, You are He who took me out of the womb; You made me trust while on my mother’s breasts. 10 I was cast upon You from birth. From my mother’s womb You have been My Elohiym.
11 Be not far from me, for trouble is near; for there is none to help. 12 Many bulls surrounded me; strong bulls of Bashan encircled Me. 13 They gape at me with their mouths, like a raging and roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, and my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it melted within Me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue clings to my jaws; You brought me to the dust of death. 16 For dogs surrounded me; the congregation of the wicked enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my feet; 17 I can count my bones. They look and stare at me. 18 They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots. 19 However, You, O JEHOVAH, do not be far from me; O my strength, hasten to help me! 20 Deliver me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog. 21 Save me from the lion’s mouth and from the horns of the wild oxen! You answered me.
22 I will declare Your name to my brethren; amid the assembly I will praise You. 23 You who fear JEHOVAH, praise Him! You descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, and fear Him, you offspring of Israel! 24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; but when he cried to Him, He heard. 25 My praise will be of You in the great assembly; I will pay my vows before those who fear Him. 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek Him will praise JEHOVAH. Let your heart live forever! 27 The ends of the world will remember and turn to JEHOVAH, and the families of the nations will worship before You. 28 For the kingdom is JEHOVAH’S, and He rules over the nations. 29 The prosperous of the earth will eat and worship; those who go down to the dust will bow before Him, even he who cannot keep himself alive. 30 A posterity will serve Him. It will be recounted of JEHOVAH to the next generation, 31 they will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, that He has done this.

Missionaries throughout the world face torture and death from those they bring a message of salvation.
David through the Hagios Pneuma penned a Messianic prophecy regarding the coming Messiah. He recounted not only his own pain at the hands of his enemies, but what the Messiah would suffer on the cross.
As Christians, you know this psalm as the first verse is one Yeshuwa spoke from the cross.
Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Iesous cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
You also recognize the verses describing Yeshuwa’s clothes and how they mocked Him.
Matthew 27:35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: “They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” (NKJV)
Matthew 27:39 Those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Huios of Theos, come down from the cross.” 41 Likewise, the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, 42 “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the Basileus of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. 43 He trusted in Theos; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Huios of Theos.’”
Many Christians suffered torture and death through the centuries for naming the name of Yeshuwa and bringing the gospel to the nations. Missionaries know the trouble they face. When they return home on furlough, they request not to mention them or where they work publicly as it could harm them and their ministry. They are not afraid of death, or they would not be missionaries. However, they protect their ministry and their flock.
Yeshuwa went to the cross for your salvation. He did it because He loves you. What are you willing to do for Him?
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for sending Your Son to die for me because You love me. Give me a willingness to lay down my life if necessary for the gospel to bring life to those to whom I witness Your amazing love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
