Day 127 – Vengeance

Psalm 28:1 (A Psalm of David.) To You I will cry, O JEHOVAH my Tsuwr. Do not be silent to me, lest, if You are silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. 2 Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to You, when I lift my hands toward Your holy sanctuary. 3 Do not take me away with the wicked and with the workers of iniquity, who speak peace to their neighbors, but evil is in their hearts. 4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavors; give them according to the work of their hands; render to them what they deserve. 5 Because they do not regard the works of JEHOVAH, nor the operation of His hands, He will destroy them and not build them up. 6 Blessed be JEHOVAH, because He heard the voice of my supplications! 7 JEHOVAH is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore, my heart rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. 8 JEHOVAH is their strength, and He is the saving refuge of His anointed. 9 Save Your people, and bless Your inheritance; Ra’ah them also, and bear them up forever.

God’s names:

JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal

Tsuwr – Mighty God, Strength, Rock

Ra’ah – Pastor, Shepherd

Pater – Father

Kurios, KURIOS – Supreme Authority

God’s character:

Shepherd

How often do you want to see people get what they deserve, especially when they’ve committed crimes?

David prayed for JEHOVAH to come against his enemies. He wanted JEHOVAH to give them what they deserved. He also asked JEHOVAH not to receive the same treatment as his enemies.

Many Christians find it wrong to pray for Yeshuwa to give their enemies what they deserve. Instead, they pray for their enemies to receive salvation and get wise to their actions.

Yeshuwa told the people they were to pray for their enemies.

Matthew 5:43 “You heard it said, ‘You will love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 However, I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Pater in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 If you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore, you will be perfect, just as your Pater in heaven is perfect.

He told them to pray because vengeance belonged to Yeshuwa, not His people. David didn’t take vengeance against his enemies. He prayed for JEHOVAH to bring vengeance to them.

Deuteronomy 32:35 Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; their foot will slip in due time; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things to come hasten upon them.’

Hebrews 10:30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Kurios. And again, “The KURIOS will judge His people.”

David prayed for JEHOVAH to take vengeance against his enemies. We are to do the same, while also praying for Yeshuwa to bless those who curse you and persecute you.

You know your greatest enemy is Satan. He causes people to come against you. Those are the ones you need to pray for. They need salvation as much as you did when you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord. When you pray for your enemies, Yeshuwa will work His will in their lives, whether vengeance or salvation, both belong to Yeshuwa.

Let’s pray: Father, help me pray for my enemies, for Your will to be done in their lives. Don’t let me take vengeance on them but leave vengeance in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
