Day 130 – Prayer
Psalm 31:1 (To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.) In You, O JEHOVAH, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness. 2 Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily: be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me. 3 For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me. 4 Pull me out of the net which they secretly laid for me, for You are my strength. 5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You redeemed me, O JEHOVAH Elohiym of truth. 6 I hate those who regard useless idols; but I trust in JEHOVAH. 7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, for You considered my trouble; You know my soul in adversities, 8 and did not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You set my feet in a wide place.
9 Have mercy on me, O JEHOVAH, for I am in trouble, my eye wastes away with grief, yes, my soul and my body! 10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. 11 I am a reproach among my enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and am repulsive to my acquaintances; those who see me outside flee from me. 12 I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel. 13 For I hear the slander of many; fear is on every side; while they take counsel together against me, they scheme to take away my life. 14 As for me, I trust in You, O JEHOVAH; I say, “You are my Elohiym.” 15 My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me. 16 Make Your face shine upon Your servant; save me for Your mercies’ sake. 17 Do not let me be ashamed, O JEHOVAH, for I called upon You; let the wicked be ashamed; let them be silent in the grave. 18 Let the lying lips be put to silence, which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You laid up for those who fear You, which You prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men! 20 You will hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You will keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be JEHOVAH, for He showed me His marvelous kindness in a strong city! 22 For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Your eyes”; Nevertheless, You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried out to You. 23 Oh, love JEHOVAH, you, His saints! For JEHOVAH preserves the faithful and fully repays the proud person. 24 Be of good courage, and He will strengthen your heart, you who hope in JEHOVAH.

When do you pray? Isn’t it when you’re in trouble? When your life looks grim and you don’t see a way out, then you pray.
David prayed because he knew only JEHOVAH could deliver him from his enemies, revive his life from death, and hide him in JEHOVAH’S secret pavilion. He trusted JEHOVAH to come to his aid because He had done it many times before. David began his prayer by extolling JEHOVAH’S characteristics and asked Him not to bring shame to him before his enemies. He ended his prayer in the same way he started it, trusting JEHOVAH’S goodness and kindness to rescue him from his enemies.
Many Christians leave out the most important part of their prayers for help. They don’t give honor and glory to Yeshuwa first. They don’t praise Him for who He is. Instead, they jump right to their problems.
Yeshuwa gave the people a model prayer to follow.
Matthew 6:9 “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Pater in heaven, hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and power and glory forever. Amen.
David followed this prayer for help against his enemies and to provide everything he needed.
When you honor Yeshuwa for who He is, He will answer your prayers faster than when you don’t honor Him.
Who is Yeshuwa? Why did you accept Him as your Savior and Lord?
- He redeemed you from death, Hell, and the grave with His atoning sacrifice on the cross.
- He gives you strength to face your enemies.
- He fights for you.
- He defeated Satan when He died and rose from the grave.
- He is your salvation.
- He is KING of Kings and LORD of Lords.
With everything Yeshuwa is, it’s a wonder Christians skip who He is when they pray for help.
What did Peter pray when he walked on the water to Yeshuwa?
Matthew 14:29 He said, “Come.” When Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Iesous. 30 However, when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Kurios, save me!”
Peter recognized Yeshuwa’s supreme authority to save him when he called Him Kurios. He honored Yeshuwa because he knew only, He could save him.
How do you pray when you’re in trouble? Don’t skip the most important part of your prayer. Give Yeshuwa praise and honor before you make your request for help.
Let’s pray: Father, too often I forget to honor You for who You are, my King and my God. You redeemed me from Hell and gave me Your purpose. Let me always honor You in my prayers, never forgetting how You taught me to pray. Also let me remember to give You praise and honor after I make my request. For to You alone belong the honor, glory, and praise forever. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
