Day 158 – Battle

Psalm 59:1 (To the Chief Musician. Set to “Do Not Destroy.” A Michtam of David when Saul sent men, and they watched the house to kill him.) Deliver me from my enemies, O my Elohiym; defend me from those who rise against me. 2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity and save me from bloodthirsty men. 3 For look, they lie in wait for my life; the mighty gather against me, not for my transgression nor for my sin, O JEHOVAH. 4 They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine. Awake to help me and behold! 5 You therefore, O JEHOVAH Elohiym of hosts, the Elohiym of Israel, awake to punish the nations; do not be merciful to wicked transgressors. Selah 6 At evening they return, they growl like a dog and go around the city. 7 Indeed, they belch with their mouth; swords are in their lips; for they say, “Who hears?”

8 However, You, O JEHOVAH, will laugh at them; You will have the nations in derision. 9 I will wait for You, O You his Strength; for Elohiym is my defense; 10 my Elohiym of mercy will come to meet me; Elohiym will let me see my desire on my enemies. 11 Do not slay them, lest my people forget; scatter them by Your power, and bring them down, O JEHOVAH our shield. 12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, let them even be taken in their pride, and for the cursing and lying which they speak. 13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be and let them know that Elohiym rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah 14 At evening they return, they growl like a dog and go around the city. 15 They wander up and down for food, and howl if they are not satisfied. 16 However, I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. 17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for Elohiym is my defense, my Elohiym of mercy.

As children you drew up battle lines on the playground to defend your territory against the other team. As adults you draw up your battle lines in the workplace, in your neighborhood, in the clubhouse, wherever rivals meet to defend their positions against those who want to take your position from you. Life is a never-ending battle for supremacy.

David faced many enemies, but the person he faced most often was from King Saul who intended to kill him. David didn’t come against Saul except in prayer for Elohiym to act and keep him safe. David recognized that JEHOVAH Elohiym was his Strength. Only He could defend him, save him, and deliver him from everything Saul purposed against him. David’s purpose was to praise Elohiym for keeping him safe.

When you became a Christian, the battle lines were drawn up against you. Satan comes against you every day to tear you down and cause your faith to stumble. However, Yeshuwa is your Savior, defender, refuge, shield, strength, and the only power to defeat Satan. When you pray, Yeshuwa will defend you and bring you through the battle Satan brings against you.

What battle do you face? Stand against Satan in prayer and remember, the battle belongs to Yeshuwa. He will defend you. You only need to pray and praise Him and He will bring about your victory.

Let’s pray: Father, my Defender, Savior, Refuge, and Strength. I come before You in praise for what You will do in my battle with Satan. Deliver me from his hands and schemes. Let him know I will not waver because You are with me. You are my God, and I trust in You. Let my battle cry of victory be heard in Satan’s realm and let him know he cannot defeat me when I stand in the armor You provided for me, the armor of prayer and praise. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
