What’s your definition of romantic?

There was a day when I got married, and the hopes and dreams of unconditional love would be mine until death us did part. It didn’t happen. Divorce came my way after 21 years of marital disharmony.

Back then I wanted someone to love me. Love was pretty much absent in my life up to that moment. It turned out it would remain that way.

So, what is my definition of romantic? Not what it used to be. Now romantic to me would be spending quality time with each other, listening to the hopes and dreams of the other person. It’s being there for the person in the bad times, not only the good times. It’s not forcing your will on another person, taking them for granted, or telling them they don’t have what it takes to fulfill their dreams. Romance is listening to the other person, giving them your undivided attention. It’s doing the unexpected to make them happy.

The only romance I have in my life right now is the romance between my Savior, who truly loves me and proved it by giving His life for me, and me. His is unconditional love. No strings. I don’t need to measure up to His ideal. I already am His ideal. He loves me just the way I am. His is true romance and I get to be part of it every day.

What is your definition of romantic? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.
