Day 201 – Overwhelmed

Psalm 102:1 (A Prayer of the afflicted when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before JEHOVAH.) Hear my prayer, O JEHOVAH, and let my cry come to You. 2 Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; on the day I call, answer me speedily. 3 For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned like a hearth. 4 My heart is stricken and withered like grass, so that I forget to eat my bread. 5 My bones cling to my skin because of the sound of my groaning. 6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I am like an owl of the desert. 7 I lie awake and am like a sparrow alone on the housetop. 8 My enemies reproach me throughout the day, those who deride me swear an oath against me. 9 For I eat ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping, 10 because of Your indignation and Your wrath; for You lifted me and cast me away. 11 My days are like a shadow that lengthens, and I wither away like grass.

12 However, You, O JEHOVAH, will endure forever, and the remembrance of Your name to every generation. 13 You will rise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come. 14 For Your servants take pleasure in her stones and show favor to her dust. 15 So the nations will fear the name of JEHOVAH, and the kings of the earth Your glory. 16 For JEHOVAH will build Zion; He will appear in His glory. 17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute and will not despise their prayer. 18 This will be written for the generations to come, that a people yet to be created may praise YAHH. 19 For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven JEHOVAH viewed the earth, 20 to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death, 21 to declare the name of JEHOVAH in Zion, and His praise in Jerusalem, 22 when the people gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve JEHOVAH.

23 He weakened my strength in the way; He shortened my days. 24 I said, “O my El, do not take me away in the middle of my days; Your years are throughout every generation. 25 Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. 26 They will perish, but You will endure; yes, they will grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will change them, and they will be changed. 27 However, You are the same, and Your years will have no end. 28 The children of Your servants will continue, and You will establish their descendants before You.”

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by your circumstances and want to complain to someone about what you’re going through? Everyone feels overwhelmed at one time or another. What do you do? Do you find someone who will listen to your complaint? Or do you bear it alone?

The psalmist felt overwhelmed and complained to JEHOVAH. He knew he was the only one who would listen to him. In his complaint, he reminded JEHOVAH about His eternal nature, and his finite nature. He couldn’t wait for an eternity to have his problems solved. This psalmist could have been David, who poured out his complaint before JEHOVAH often when his enemies came against him. He also reminded Him that he was dust and needed His help while he lived.

When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, Satan became your enemy. He comes against you as often as he can to cause you to feel overwhelmed and in need of help only Yeshuwa can give. Do you pour out your complaint as the psalmist did? Or do you go to friends, other believers, or counselors looking for help and a listening ear?

Too often we look at the circumstances and forget to reach out to Yeshuwa first. We pour out our complaint to anyone who will listen to us.

Does this describe you? I know it describes me. Satan causes so much trouble that we forget where our hope lies. Satan doesn’t want you to remember to call on Yeshuwa first. He enjoys your trouble and makes as much as he can for you until you can only do one thing, the thing you should have done first, call on Yeshuwa to destroy the schemes of the enemy. When you pray and seek Yeshuwa first, He will cause Satan to flee from you. He will make a way where there was no way and solve your problems, so they don’t overwhelm you anymore.

What problems did Satan bring against you? Pray, seek Yeshuwa’s face and watch Him solve your problems. Don’t give Satan the upper hand in your life. He needs to flee and the only way to do that is to pray.

Let’s pray: Father, too often my life looks like an obstacle course I need to navigate. I go from problem to problem and chaos to chaos. In those times when Satan comes in like a flood, help me reach out to You first and see Your hand destroy the obstacles and Satan’s schemes in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
