Day 219 – Be Clean

Psalm 119:9 BETH. How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

10 I sought You with my whole heart; oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!

11 I hid Your word in my heart, so I might not sin against You!

12 Blessed are You, O JEHOVAH! Teach me Your statutes!

13 I declared the judgments of Your mouth with my lips. 14 I rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in riches. 15 I will meditate on Your precepts and contemplate Your ways. 16 I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.

God’s names:

JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal

Yeshuwa – Jesus

Iesous – Jesus

Theos – Supreme Divinity

Pneuma – Violent Wind, Breath, Spirit

Huios – Son

KURIOS – Supreme Authority

God’s character:

Lawgiver

What do you do when you say or do something that gets you in trouble? You find ways to make amends and fix the situation.

The psalmist considered his life as unclean and realized the only way to become clean was to spend time reading the Law. He wanted to learn as much as he could about JEHOVAH’S Law, so he could keep himself pure and not sin against Him. He saw the benefit reading the Law gave him.

The psalmist wanted:

  1. To seek JEHOVAH with his entire heart.
  2. To hide His Word in his heart so he wouldn’t sin against Him.
  3. JEHOVAH to teach him His statutes
  4. To rejoice in His testimonies
  5. To meditate on His precepts
  6. Contemplate His ways
  7. Delight in His statutes
  8. Not forget His Word

When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you committed yourself to reading His Word, studying, and keeping your ways as pure as possible. It’s not easy. Satan will cause you to say and do things that will take you out of Yeshuwa’s will. Yet, when you spend time meditating, memorizing, reading, studying, and praying, you will hide Yeshuwa’s Word in your heart. Then you will know the Scriptures that will send Satan fleeing from you. Remember, Satan knows every word in the Bible. He used it against Yeshuwa in the wilderness. However, Yeshuwa used Scripture against him until the only thing Satan could do was leave Him.

Matthew 4:1 Then Iesous was led up by the Pneuma into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 When He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Huios of Theos, command that these stones become bread.” 4 However, He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of Theos.’” 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Huios of Theos, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’’ 7 Iesous said to him, “It is written again, ‘You will not tempt the KURIOS your Theos.’” 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 He said to Him, “These things I will give You if You fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You will worship KURIOS your Theos, and Him only you will serve.’” 11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

When you know Yeshuwa’s Word and hide it in your heart as the psalmist did, you will always be ready when Satan comes against you.

Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word be on my lips and in my heart so I will not sin against You. When Satan comes against me, let Your Word rise out of my heart and let him know he can do nothing to me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
