What does your ideal home look like?

Through the years, I’ve made many layouts of what I wanted for my home. Layouts because I have an associate degree in architecture. I love coming up with different layouts of what I hope my ideal home will be. It’s also changed over the years.

I would draw up plans with large kitchens and bedrooms. I don’t like small. There’s no room in a small place for anything. I know that well as the apartment I have is a one bedroom. My bedroom is a good size and so is the bathroom. However the kitchen is small, and I share my living room with my computer desk, so it’s small. I would like to have a room for my desk and work. Alas, not happening.

So, what would my ideal home look like? Number one: a large enough kitchen with enough counter space to work and have all my gadgets, and plenty of cupboards for my dishes and cookware. A nice sized pantry for non-perishables. A refrigerator big enough to hold plenty of food. An average size living room, big enough for a couple of chairs and a couch. Not too big. I don’t want to holler across the room to be heard. Large bedroom with a huge walk-in closet. I have lots of clothes. Two more average size bedrooms for guests. A decent size bathroom. The one I have is the largest I’ve had in any place I’ve lived and I love it. It’s perfect. A nice sized dining room for a large dining room table to seat 8. Perfect for holidays and dinner parties. Let’s not forget the den for my computer desk and everything I need as an author.

Okay, let’s look at the floor plan: Surrounding the house would be a spacious lawn in front and back, though out back you would see on the plans a swimming pool. I love to swim. So the pool is a must. There would be an attached two car garage. When you walk into the front door, you enter the living room. It’s an open plan layout with the dining room to the back of the living room and the kitchen to the right. A hallway leads off the living room to the bedrooms and bathrooms. Yes, two bathrooms. When you come into the house from the garage, you enter the kitchen. The kitchen has a large patio door leading to a nice deck for the barbecue and plenty of room for guests. The deck leads out to the pool. There would also be a basement, where you find the man cave or woman cave in my case. This is for football parties with a nice sized television mounted to the wall and enough seating to enjoy the game and a snack counter and fridge. No running up to the kitchen for snacks and what nots. The stairs leading to the basement is off the living room at the hallway leading to the bedrooms. Yes, there’s a bathroom in the basement too. My den is next to my bedroom, so I don’t need to go far in the morning to start my work.

Okay, I don’t think I left anything out of my ideal home with gray siding. Oh I forgot there’s a nice fireplace in the living room. This is Wisconsin and it gets cold here, so I need a nice fireplace for those frosty cold winter days and nights.
