Day 249 – Prayer

Psalm 130:1 (A Song of Ascents.) Out of the depths I cried to You, O JEHOVAH; 2 Adonay, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. 3 If You, YAHH, should mark iniquities, O Adonay, who could stand? 4 However, there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.

5 I wait for JEHOVAH, my soul waits, and in His word, I hope. 6 My soul waits for Adonay more than those who watch for the mornings, more than those who watch for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in JEHOVAH; for with JEHOVAH there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption. 8 He will redeem Israel from his iniquities.

God’s names:

JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal

Adonay – God’s proper name

YAHH – Jah, Sacred, Jah the Lord

Yeshuwa – Jesus

Hagios Pneuma – Sacred, Holy, Violent Breath, Wind, Spirit

God’s character:

Forgiver

Merciful

Redeemer

Have you wanted something so bad that your petitions came from the depths of your soul?

The psalmist wanted JEHOVAH to listen to him. His prayers came from the depth of his soul. He longed for JEHOVAH to hear him and pay attention to his needs. He acknowledged JEHOVAH’S merciful and redemptive nature when he prayed. His request from the depth of his soul involved Israel’s redemption.

Many Christians pray, but it doesn’t come from the depths of their souls. It’s a hasty request, not the longing of their heart.

Yeshuwa asked His disciples to watch and pray with Him for one hour, but they couldn’t stay awake that long. They didn’t know what would soon take place.

If you knew what would happen when you prayed, would you pray with the longing Yeshuwa wants from you? Would your prayers become an earnest request from the depth of your soul?

It wasn’t until after Yeshuwa’s resurrection and ascension into heaven that the disciples got serious about prayer. Prayer services lasted an entire night. They prayed from the depths of their souls for the salvation of the people they ministered to. You know their prayer worked because when the Hagios Pneuma fell on them, thousands accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Adonay.

What do you need? How long will you pray for your needs? How long will you pray for the salvation of your loved ones? The psalmist prayed from the depths of his soul for Israel’s salvation. Will you pray from the depths of your soul for your loved one’s salvation?

Let’s pray: Father, give me a willing heart to pray for the salvation of my loved ones and not give up too soon or treat prayer as a requirement and not an act of faith. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
