Day 250 – Hope

Psalm 131:1 (A Song of Ascents. Of David.) JEHOVAH, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, nor with things too profound for me. 2 Surely, I calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, hope in JEHOVAH from this time forth and forever.

God’s names:

JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal

Yeshuwa – Jesus

God’s character:

Peace

People have opinions about everything. No matter what people do, they will either applaud their actions or condemn them.

David told JEHOVAH he didn’t concern himself with things that didn’t concern him. He left those matters to JEHOVAH. Instead, he calmed and quieted his soul as a weaned child, content in JEHOVAH’S answer to lofty and profound matters. He told Israel to put their hope in JEHOVAH, not on worldly matters.

Too often Christians act like the world. They concern themselves with matters they should leave to those in authority or to Yeshuwa. If Christians prayed as David did for Yeshuwa to take care of matters too profound for them, their lives would become more peaceful. Christians only need to do as David told Israel, put their hope in Yeshuwa. He will take care of everything.

Reinhold Niebuhr wrote the famous Serenity Prayer. God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and the Wisdom to know the difference.

If Christians took this prayer to heart, life would be calmer because they would put everything in Yeshuwa’s hands where they belong.

The next time you see or hear about matters best left to authorities, put it in Yeshuwa’s hands and watch Him take care of the situation.

Let’s pray: Father, help me put everything in Your hands, to pray before I interfere with things that don’t concern me. Let me be an instrument of peace in troubled times. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
