Day 256 – Vengeance
Psalm 137:1 By the rivers of Babylon, we sat down, yea, we wept when we remembered Zion. 2 We hung our harps upon the willows in the middle of it. 3 For those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, and those who plundered us requested mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” 4 How can we sing JEHOVAH’S song in a foreign land? 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill! 6 If I do not remember you, let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth—if I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Remember, O JEHOVAH, against the sons of Edom the day of Jerusalem, who said, “Raze it, raze it, to its foundation!” 8 O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed, happy the one who repays you as you have served us! 9 Happy the one who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock!
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Vengeful
When people wrong you, you want to take vengeance. You plot how you will go about it. However, few people carry out vengeance. Only those who have no moral compass.
The psalmist was among the exiles in Babylon. He lamented how their captors treated them and then wanted to hear songs from Zion. He asked JEHOVAH to bring His vengeance to their captors in the same way they treated them.
It isn’t wrong for you to want your enemies to receive the same treatment they gave you. It’s only wrong when you carry out your plans. As children of Yeshuwa you need to bring your concerns to Him. He promised to fight for you and eliminate your enemies. Satan comes against you as often as he can. Only when you turn to Yeshuwa for His help, will you see Satan flee from you.
Let’s pray: Father, You know how Satan taunts me and tries to make me forget You. Help me remember Your promises to fight for me against Satan and see Your vengeance on his schemes. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
