Day 258 – Search Me
Psalm 139:1 (For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.) O JEHOVAH, You searched me and know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; You understand my thoughts afar off. 3 You understand my path and my lying down and know my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O JEHOVAH, You know it altogether. 5 You hedged me behind and before and laid Your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it.
7 Where can I go from Your Ruwach? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will fall on me,” even the night will be light about me; 12 indeed, the darkness will not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You. 13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. In Your book, they were written, the days fashioned for me, when yet there were none of them.
17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O El! How great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You. 19 Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O Elowahh! Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men. 20 For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain. 21 Do I not hate them, O JEHOVAH, who hate You? Do I not loathe those who rise against You? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies. 23 Search me, O El, and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties; 24 and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Ruwach – Breath, Tempest, Whirlwind, Spirit
El – Strength, Mighty, Almighty God
Elowahh – The Deity, God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Omniscient
How well do you know your spouse, your children, your friends, your neighbors? How well do you know yourself? People like to believe they know their loved ones and friends, even themselves. However, they don’t know anyone as well as they believe they do.
David asked JEHOVAH to search him, seek out everything about him and find any wickedness in him. He knew he could not hide from JEHOVAH. No matter where he went, or whatever he did, JEHOVAH knew about it, even declaring El knew everything about him before he was born because He wrote every day of his life in His book. Then David declared that JEHOVAH’S enemies were his enemies and insisted El search out everything about him.
What would happen if you asked Yeshuwa to take a deep look into your life like David asked JEHOVAH to do? What would He find? What would Yeshuwa reveal about you?
Christians tell themselves they are in good standing with Yeshuwa. They justify their actions and compare themselves with the world. Yet if you allowed Yeshuwa to search out the deep places in your soul, what would He unearth? What secrets lie embedded in you that even you don’t want to look at?
When you pray, do you ask Yeshuwa to look into your life and change EVERYTHING that interferes with your walk with Him? To the world, you look, act, and talk like a Christian. What about your private life, you don’t show the world? What will Yeshuwa find? Remember, He wrote every day of your life in His book. Yeshuwa knows you better than you know yourself.
Let’s pray: Father, You know everything about me. I cannot run from You or hide from You. You know my thoughts before I think them. You know the secret places in my life I don’t want to look at. Show me who I am, reveal those things I hide even from myself. Cleanse my heart and life so that my life doesn’t just look like I am a Christian, but I am a Christian who loves and fears You above everything else in my life. Reveal Yourself in me and let me walk with confidence, knowing I am who You made to be, Your child. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
