Day 259 – Prayer

Psalm 140:1 (To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.) Deliver me, O JEHOVAH, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, 2 who plan evil things in their hearts; they continually gather for war. 3 They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Selah 4 Keep me, O JEHOVAH, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who purposed to make my steps stumble. 5 The proud hid a snare for me, and cords; they spread a net by the wayside; they set traps for me. Selah

6 I said to JEHOVAH: “You are my El; hear the voice of my supplications, O JEHOVAH. 7 O Y@HOVIH the Adonay, the strength of my salvation, you covered my head in the day of battle.

8 Grant not, O JEHOVAH, the desires of the wicked; do not further his wicked scheme, lest they be exalted. Selah 9 “As for the head of those who surround me, let the evil of their lips cover them; 10 let burning coals fall upon them; let them be cast into the fire, into deep pits, that they rise not again. 11 Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.” 12 I know that JEHOVAH will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the poor. 13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; the upright will dwell in Your presence.

God’s names:

JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal

El – Strength, Mighty, Almighty God

Adonay – God’s proper name

Y@HOVIH – God

Yeshuwa – Jesus

God’s character:

Deliverer

Preserver

Strength

Salvation

Just

Righteous

You find wicked and violent men everywhere, your homes, workplaces, government, and you want to see them gone forever from your lives. What do you do?

David prayed to JEHOVAH to take them out, destroy them so he wouldn’t need to deal with them in his life anymore. He also asked JEHOVAH to maintain the cause of the righteous and bring justice to the people.

As Christians, you need to follow David’s example and pray for Yeshuwa to take care of wicked and evil people and to keep you safe from them.

Too often Christians will take matters into their hands and try to get rid of wicked and evil people in their lives. They believe they can handle it and don’t need Yeshuwa to intervene for them. Wrong answer. You need to place your enemies in Yeshuwa’s hands and watch Him take them from your lives.

Satan controls wicked and violent people. No one can come against Satan except Yeshuwa. When you pray in Yeshuwa’s name, Satan flees, and wickedness disappears because nothing can stand against the name of Yeshuwa.

Follow David’s example and turn to Yeshuwa, pray, and watch Satan flee from you.

Let’s pray: Father, too often I try to handle things in my own strength instead of turning to You when Satan comes against me. Help me to rely on You in everything in my life and watch You take Satan out of my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
