Day 267 – Praise
Psalm 148:1 Praise (Halal) YAHH! Praise JEHOVAH from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights! 2 Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts! 3 Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, you stars of light! 4 Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, and you waters above the heavens! 5 Let them praise the name of JEHOVAH, for He commanded and they were created. 6 He also established them forever and ever; He made a decree which will not pass away.
7 Praise JEHOVAH from the earth, you great sea creatures and the depths; 8 fire and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling His word; 9 mountains and hills; fruitful trees and cedars; 10 beasts and cattle; creeping things and flying fowl; 11 kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and judges of the earth; 12 both young men and maidens; old men and children. 13 Let them praise the name of JEHOVAH, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth and heaven. 14 He exalted the horn of His people, the praise (tehhillah) of His saints—of the children of Israel, a people near to Him. Praise (Halal) YAHH!
God’s names:
YAHH – Sacred name, Jah the Lord
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Creator
Exalted
Glory
When you think about animals, birds, nature, you don’t think about them as anything more than uncomprehending. You don’t think about them having intelligence. You accept that everything has life in it, or it won’t grow.
Yet the psalmist told everything in JEHOVAH’S creation to praise Him.
When the disciples encountered a storm at sea, Yeshuwa amazed them when He told the wind and waves to be still, and they obeyed.
Luke 8:22 Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” They launched out. 23 However, as they sailed, He fell asleep. A windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 They came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. They ceased, and there was calm. 25 However, He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”
You hear stories about people of faith who told the storm to pass over them, and it did. No harm came to them. Yet many Christians see creation as inanimate. Everything in JEHOVAH’S creation has a purpose—to praise JEHOVAH. JEHOVAH created you with a purpose, to praise Him.
When was the last time you gave Yeshuwa praise—halal?
a primitive root; to be clear (orig. of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence, to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causatively, to celebrate; also to stultify:–(make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool(- ish, -ly), glory, give (light), be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, (sing, be worthy of) praise, rage, renowned, shine.
Tehhillah?
from 1984; laudation; specifically (concretely) a hymn: –praise.
You sing hymns in church, and sometimes you even get clamorous in your paise, but what about when you’re alone in your home? Do you sing along when you play your music? Do you dance and really have a good time praising Yeshuwa? Or do you only listen to the music and tell yourself it’s a wonderful song?
If you won’t get clamorous in your home, you won’t do it in church or anywhere else people sing songs of praise.
Praise belongs to everyone who names the name of Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord. It belongs to everything in JEHOVAH’S creation. JEHOVAH created you with purpose, to praise Him. It’s time to stop sitting on your hands and get clamorous with your praise.
Let’s pray: Father, I confess, I don’t get clamorous with my praise when I sing along with the music or even in church. Help me get out of my comfort zone and praise You with my entire being. Help me get loud with my praise. I don’t want the rocks to cry out because I keep silent. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
