Day 270 – Wisdom
Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: 2 To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, 3 to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; 4 to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion— 5 a wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, 6 to understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles.
7 The fear of JEHOVAH is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 8 My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother; 9 for they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. 11 If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait to shed blood; let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; 12 let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down to the Pit; 13 we will find all kinds of precious possessions, we will fill our houses with spoil; 14 cast in your lot among us, let us have one purse” — 15 My son, do not walk in the way with them, keep your foot from their path; 16 for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely, in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird; 18 but they lie in wait for their own blood, they lurk secretly for their own lives. 19 Thus are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its owners.
20 Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares. 21 She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words: 22 “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. 23 Turn at my rebuke; surely, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one regarded, 25 because you disdained my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of JEHOVAH, 30 they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. 31 Therefore, they will eat the fruit of their own way and be filled to the full with their own fancies. 32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; 33 but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.”

God’s character:
Wisdom
People love proverbs. You see quotes from many religious sources and people who make new proverbs on the Internet, in books, magazines, and hear them in the movies and shows you watch.
Solomon wrote proverbs, wise sayings, and dedicated a book to them. He gave the purpose of the proverbs he wrote: To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion—a wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, to understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles.
Solomon also gave the reason for his proverbs: The fear of JEHOVAH is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Wisdom could also be called Common Sense. People lack wisdom and want to run after fools and forsake the instruction of their fathers and the law of their mothers.
Before you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you also followed the way of fools and lacked understanding and wisdom. Did you hear Wisdom’s voice when you said yes to following Yeshuwa, or did you continue along the path you always knew, keeping your friends who led you into trouble.
Many Christians believe they can follow Yeshuwa and keep their old life. Christianity doesn’t work like that. You must put off the old to put on the new. Yeshuwa said, you cannot serve Theos and mammon.
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve Theos and mammon.
Romans 6:6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. (NKJV)
Ephesians 4:17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Kurios, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of Theos, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work every uncleanness with greediness. 20 However, you have not so learned Christos, 21 if indeed you heard Him and been taught by Him, as the truth is in Iesous: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to Theos, in true righteousness and holiness.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christos, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, everything has become new.
If then you put off the old man, you will listen to Wisdom when she cries aloud in your heart and not follow your old ways. You will listen to wise instructions and scorn evil.
Let’s pray: Father, help me listen to wise instructions and counsel. Help me know when Satan comes after me to destroy my understanding and keep me on the narrow path leading to eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
