Day 272 – Wisdom

Proverbs 3:1 My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; 2 for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, 4 and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of Elohiym and man. 5 Trust in JEHOVAH with your entire heart and lean not on your understanding; 6 in your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.

7 Do not be wise in your eyes; fear JEHOVAH and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. 9 Honor JEHOVAH with your possessions, and with the first fruits of your increase; 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine. 11 My son, do not despise the chastening of JEHOVAH, nor detest His correction; 12 For whom JEHOVAH loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.

13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; 14 for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies, and everything you desire cannot compare with her. 16 Length of days is in her right hand, in her left-hand riches and honor. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and her paths are peaceful. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are those who retain her. 19 JEHOVAH by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding He established the heavens; 20 by His knowledge the depths were broken up, and clouds drop down the dew.

21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes—keep sound wisdom and discretion; 22 then they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck. 23 Then you will walk safely in your way, and your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. 25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; 26 for JEHOVAH will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so. 28 Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, and tomorrow I will give it,” when you have it with you. 29 Do not devise evil against your neighbor, for he dwells by you for safety’s sake. 30 Do not strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm. 31 Do not envy the oppressor and choose none of his ways; 32 for the perverse person is an abomination to JEHOVAH, but His secret counsel is with the upright. 33 The curse of JEHOVAH is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the just. 34 He scorns the scornful but gives grace to the humble. 35 The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the legacy of fools.

Many people trust in themselves alone. They don’t rely on anyone. They believe people who depend on others don’t have what it takes to make it in this world. You see that theme played out a lot in the movies you watch until you believe what they tell you.

Solomon told his son to rely on JEHOVAH. When he did, JEHOVAH would direct his paths and give him everything he needed. He told him to pay attention to and observe the law. Then he would have a long peaceful life.

Many people think they are wise. However, Solomon told his son not to be wise in his eyes, but to trust in JEHOVAH, to give Him the first fruits of his possessions. Then JEHOVAH would honor him, and he would find peace in his life. Solomon also told him to stay away from wicked people because JEHOVAH cursed the house of the wicked but gave grace to the humble.

Many Christians before they accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, were like the wicked people Solomon told his son to stay away from. They were wise in their eyes and looked down on Christians, whom they thought were better than they were. However, the moment they accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord and knew they couldn’t live this life without Him, they saw the wisdom of following Him and how doing so extended their life, brought grace, and honor, and strength to do everything Yeshuwa asked of them.

How do you see yourself? Do you see yourself as wise or humble? Do you see Yeshuwa’s blessings in your life every day, or is your life filled with trouble?

When you humble yourself in Yeshuwa’s sight, He will sustain you with everything you need. When you consider His Word and everything you read as life and health to your body, you will see Yeshuwa’s grace and favor on your life.

Live your life in awe of Him, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Let’s pray: Father, as the psalmist said, Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Guide me along the path You have for me. Give me Your strength for the journey and don’t let me get puffed up in my eyes and think I can go ahead of You. Bless me as I honor You in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
