Daily writing prompt
What major historical events do you remember?

I was born in 1953, so I have seen a few major events. The first notable event I remember was the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. I was in school at the time when a teacher came into the classroom and told my teacher to turn on the radio. I also watched the funeral parade and the internment in Arlington National Cemetery and the lighting of the eternal flame.

The second notable event was the moon landing in 1969 when Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon and uttered the words: One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind. My family was on vacation to a family reunion at my grandparents home on a lake south of our home in Wisconsin. I remember huddling around my uncle’s black and white TV with my other cousins, aunts and uncles to view the historic event.

The third notable event, though I don’t remember the year, was the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. I watched the ceremony on television along with millions of other people.

The fourth notable event took place in 1996 when Princess Diana was killed in a horrific car accident in France. I watched her funeral and mourned her loss along with millions of other people.

The fifth notable event took place on 9/11/2001 when two planes struck the World Trade Center and another one landed in a field in Pennsylvania being forced from its intended target, the White House. Another plane struck the Pentagon. Four planes tried to destroy the heart and soul of America, but America rallied and showed the world they would not be overcome. Together we stood tall and together in our time of crisis.

The sixth notable event was the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, now Princess Kate. I watched the ceremony on television.

The seventh notable event was the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. I watched this wedding also.

The eighth notable event was the death of Queen Elizabeth II. I watched the events leading up to the funeral and the funeral ceremony.

The ninth notable event was the crowning of Prince Charles as King Charles III. I watched the event from almost the beginning through the crowning and the celebration after at Buckingham Palace.

What events do you remember? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.

The two that come to mind right off are the Challenger Space Shuttle explosion in 1986 and of course, 9/11 😦

Beautifully shared dear Valerie. 9/11 was pretty heavy, I still remember watching how it unfolded back then.

Well written. You must be a royalist given that almost all your events are to do with the UK royal family.
