Day 278 – Wisdom
Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom built her house, she hewed out her seven pillars; 2 she slaughtered her meat, she mixed her wine, she also furnished her table. 3 She sent out her maidens, she cries out from the highest places of the city, 4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him, who lacks understanding, she says to him, 5 “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I mixed. 6 Forsake foolishness and live and go in the way of understanding. 7 He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, and he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. 8 Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. 10 The fear of JEHOVAH is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of Qadowsh is understanding. 11 For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you. 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”
13 A foolish woman is clamorous; she is simple and knows nothing. 14 For she sits at the door of her house, on a seat by the highest places of the city, 15 to call to those who pass by, who go straight on their way, 16 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here”; and as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, 17 “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” 18 However, he does not know the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of hell.
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Qadowsh – Sacred, Holy One
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Wisdom
Understanding
Do you know wisdom when you hear it? When you listen to people, look at social media, tune into the Internet, listen to the news, it’s hard to see wisdom on display. Instead, people are prone to foolishness in everything they say and do.
What does Wisdom say? Wisdom says to listen to her, get understanding, and forsake foolishness. She says not to correct a scoffer; it will bring you shame. Instead, rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Instruct a wise man and he will become wiser. Teach a just man and he will increase in knowledge. Wisdom went on to say the fear of JEHOVAH is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of Qadowsh is understanding. Everyone who listens to foolish people condemns themselves.
How do Christians gain wisdom and understanding? They read Yeshuwa’s Word, they gather with other believers in Bible study, prayer, and church. Solomon said a three-strand cord is not easily broken. When spending time with other believers around Yeshuwa’s Word, you will not listen to the foolishness of the world or run after it.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. (NKJV)
Yeshuwa does not expect you to live your Christian life alone. You need others to help you and keep you from listening to Satan’s foolish lies. His ways lead to death. However, Yeshuwa will always lead you to life. Get wisdom. Get understanding. By them you will live.
Let’s pray: Father, the world is full of things that look wonderful on the outside, but when I look deeper, they destroy my soul. Keep me away from Satan’s foolish deceptions and guide me in the way of wisdom and understanding, the path of life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
