Day 282 – Work
Proverbs 10:5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son; he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.
God’s names:
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Iesous – Jesus
Pater – Father
Huios – Son
Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
Pneuma – Violent Wind, Breath, Spirit
Theos – Supreme Divinity
God’s character:
Provider
There’s a Disney short I watched as a child about a grasshopper who went about singing the world owed him a living. Then when winter came and he held out his cup, nobody filled it. The world owed him nothing. He didn’t work for his food. He expected people to give it to him when the time came. Many people are like that grasshopper. They refuse to work because the work is beneath them. Then they go to the welfare people to get their handout. Fortunately, the government won’t give out free handouts either. They expect the people who sign up for government aid to seek employment and provide proof of employment. Those who still refuse become homeless.
Solomon said those who worked were wise because they would have what they needed. Those who didn’t bring shame to themselves and their families.
Many Christians expect free handouts from Yeshuwa.
What did Yeshuwa tell the people?
John 5:17 But Iesous answered them, “My Pater has been working until now, and I have been working.”
18 Therefore the Jews sought even more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that Theos was His Pater, making Himself equal with Theos. 19 Then Iesous answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Huios can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Pater do; for whatever He does, the Huios also does in like manner. 20 For the Pater loves the Huios and shows Him everything He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
Are you a shameful Christian, expecting Yeshuwa to give you everything without working for it? Yeshuwa said two things in the above passage. One, His Pater worked, and two, He worked. He expects nothing less from those who call themselves Christians. He gave everyone work to do in His kingdom. What work did He give you? Are you doing it or bringing shame to the name of Christian?
1 Corinthians 12:12 For as the body is one and has many members, but the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christos. 13 For by one Pneuma we were baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have been made to drink into one Pneuma. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 16 If the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would the smell be? 18 However, now Theos set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 If they were one member, where would the body be? 20 However, now there are many members, yet one body. 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 Those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. However, Theos composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, every member suffers with it; or if one member is honored, every member rejoices with it.
You have a place in the body of Christos. You are no less important to the body than the next person. You don’t pick your position in the body, Yeshuwa already did that. Your purpose is to work in the position He gave you.
Don’t be a lazy Christian and expect someone else to do the work Yeshuwa gave you. Be responsible, not lazy.
Let’s pray: Father, help me to bring You glory and not shame in the work You gave me to do for Your kingdom. Let me work diligently in the work You gave me. Bless the work of my hands and let me be counted among the faithful. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 28 October 2025 by Valerie Routhieaux
