Day 293 – Work
Proverbs 10:16 The labor of the righteous leads to life, the wages of the wicked to sin.
God’s names:
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Elohiym – Supreme God
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Theos – Supreme Divinity
Pater – Father
Kurios – Supreme Authority
God’s character:
Judge
Righteous
You see several types of people in the workforce: People who love their work and do it with pleasure, people who hate their work and only do what’s necessary, and those who do their work because they want to do their best even if they don’t like their work. You also see the same mindset in the employers who either want to see the people they employ do their work because they want to and the employer who only wants to gain as much wealth as he can for their industry and doesn’t care about the people they employ. Those employers also see a lot of turnovers in their employees.
Solomon spoke from experience as a king and employer.
Ecclesiastes 1:12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning everything done under heaven: this sore travail hath Elohiym given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. 14 I saw the works done under the sun; and behold, everything is vanity and vexation of spirit.
2:1 I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with mirth; therefore, enjoy pleasure”; but surely, this also was vanity. 2 I said of laughter—”Madness!”; and of mirth, “What does it accomplish?” 3 I searched in my heart how to gratify my flesh with wine, while guiding my heart with wisdom, and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the sons of men to do under heaven all the days of their lives. 4 I made my work great; I built houses and planted vineyards. 5 I made gardens and orchards, and I planted every kind of fruit trees in them. 6 I made water pools from which to water the growing trees of the grove. 7 I bought male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than those who were in Jerusalem before me. 8 I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I bought male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of every kind. 9 Thus, I became great and excelled more than those who were before me in Jerusalem. Also, my wisdom remained with me. 10 Whatever my eyes wanted I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in my labor; and this was my reward from my labor. 11 Then I looked at the work my hands had done and at the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed, everything was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.
Solomon saw the people who worked for him in every capacity in the kingdom and saw those who did their work as unto JEHOVAH and those who didn’t.
What kind of work do you do for Yeshuwa? Do you tell Him what kind of work you will do for Him? Or do you tell Him you will do His will in everything? Many Christians pick and choose the kind of work they will do for Yeshuwa and refuse to do work they feel is beneath them.
Paul told the Christians at Corinth to do everything to the glory of Theos.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of Theos.
What kind of employee or employer are you? When people see your work, do they recognize it as being done with the joy of Kurios? And know that everything you do is because of your love for Yeshuwa? Or don’t they believe you’re a Christian because your work doesn’t show it?
What did Yeshuwa tell the people in the Sermon on the Mount?
Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Pater in heaven.
Solomon said the labor of the righteous leads to life. Everything you do then is for Yeshuwa’s glory, not your own. For everyone else who looks for worldly gain, the wicked intent of their hearts is clearly seen and leads only to death.
What will your wages be when you face Yeshuwa?
Let’s pray: Father, give me a willing heart to do Your will in everything. Let my attitude be: Your will not mine. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 8 November 2025 by Valerie Routhieaux
