Daily writing prompt
What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

From what I see in the notifications, I addressed this topic a year ago. Not much changed in that year. My routine is the same. I wake in the morning, start with Bible study and post it to my e-mail group and here. Then I dive into the notifications I received from you.

I still need to clean. I find I like having a clean apartment, but not to the point it doesn’t look lived in. My apartment will never find it’s way into a magazine featuring good housekeeping with immaculate rooms I would be afraid to touch for fear of putting something out of place. I visited a home like that when I was first married. The woman of the house felt her home was dirty because the rug wasn’t straight and she had a cup and saucer sitting in the sink needing to be washed. Before I stopped my mouth, I asked how old her grandchildren were. She had a nine-year-old.

Chores are at the bottom of my must do list. I fill my dishwasher every two days. I live alone, so I don’t use many dishes in one day, unless I’m having people over for dinner, which I’ve done several times with my neighbors, or I’m hosting a family dinner or as I am tomorrow, hosting a dinner party for my youth pastor and her family. Right now, chores are closer to the top of my list than at the bottom. I walk into my kitchen amazed at how clean it looks. No clutter on the counters. My bathroom has a fresh shine to it and the floors got a washing yesterday. Today’s chores include vacuuming and dusting and my bedroom. I don’t know what I’m going to do about the clutter in there. It’s possible it will find its way into the storage closet every apartment has out in the hallway.

When I’m not having company over, family, friends, special guests, my routine is simple. Bible Study, computer – spending time with you reading your notifications, working on my books, and playing games. One thing I learned about games is they strengthen the brain. So, I don’t condemn myself for playing them like I used to do. I also walk at some point during the day for two reasons, one to keep the legs from getting too stiff from sitting, and to get my heart points on my Fitbit. Getting up every hour to walk the hallways when the weather is not friendly for walking the trails, is necessary. It also clears the cobwebs from settling in the brain. Sometimes that can feel like a chore when I’m in the middle of a plot situation and I want to keep writing. Then I usually end each day with television. Yesterday, that didn’t happen. I was exhausted from everything I did yesterday to spend time watching television.

That’s my routine, the good, the not so good, and the seemingly mindless entertainment that improves the brain. So, it’s all good. It gives a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when a day goes well.
