May favorite month of the year could be the month I was born. However, it doesn’t snow in July. My favorite month of the year is December.
Why?
One very important reason why December is my favorite month of the year is because it’s the month we celebrate Jesus’ birthday. It’s the month people are nice to each other. Smiles and laughter are heard everywhere, unfortunately along with pushing, shoving, and grabbing to get the gifts for their loved ones. Yet, for all that, the mood from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day is one of love, laughter, and hope.
For me, December isn’t about what I can give my family and friends as gifts, it’s about what God gave me, His Son. When I focus on what God did for me, it’s easier for me to find the perfect gift. It might not be wrapped in pretty paper with a bow attached, but it is wrapped in my love.
Another reason I love December is snow. I love winter and snow makes it special. There have been many green Decembers, but I’m always hopeful for a white Christmas. Outdoor Christmas decorations look better against a white background. I love driving through neighborhoods to see the decorations, and am always blessed by the number of Manger scenes decorating the lawns. It puts a smile on my face and peace in my heart for those special decorations.
December makes Thanksgiving in November something to be truly thankful for: Jesus’ love for the entire world, not only me.
I can’t wait for December to get here. As such, I turned on my fiber optic tree in October, and bought a pre-lit tree and set it up this month. I love December and can’t wait for it to get here. To see the love, feel it everywhere I go and hear Christmas songs of praise for Jesus’ birth. What’s not to love about December?
