God’s character:
Righteous Judge
Deliverer
Redeemer
When people die, the wealth they accumulated dies with them. No matter how wealthy a person becomes or the riches that line their lives, they can’t take it with them into eternity. It passes to the next generation or goes to pay for their extravagant lifestyle when they die.
JEHOVAH asked Solomon what He wanted when he took the throne of his father, David. Solomon didn’t ask for wealth or riches. He knew what they would do to a person.
1 Kings 3:5 At Gibeon JEHOVAH appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and Elohiym said, “Ask! What will I give you?”
6 Solomon said, “You showed great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You continued this great kindness for him, and You gave him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 Now, O JEHOVAH my Elohiym, You made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You chose, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore, give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who can judge this great people of Yours?”
10 The speech pleased Adonay, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then Elohiym said to him, “Because you asked this thing, and did not ask for long life for yourself, nor asked for riches for yourself, nor asked for the life of your enemies, but asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I did according to your words; see, I gave you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor will any like you arise after you. 13 I also gave you what you did not ask for: both riches and honor, so no one will be like you among the kings for your entire days. 14 Therefore, if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
Solomon began and ended his reign in obedience to Elohiym. However, he strayed from Him when he married the foreign women and worshiped their elohiym. He knew how righteousness delivered from death.
Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now your Bara’ in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”:
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Elohiym and keep His commandments, for this is man’s everything. 14 For Elohiym will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.
Solomon knew the wealth he accumulated in his life would pass to his son.
Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
As Christians, you know obedience to Yeshuwa will give you a satisfying life. Your righteousness will keep you from eternal death and the wrath He lays up for those who reject Him.
Yeshuwa told a parable about a rich man and Lazarus who didn’t have wealth but begged for everything he received.
Luke 16:19 “There was a certain rich man clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 However, there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 Thus it happened that the beggar died, and angels carried him to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 However, Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 Besides, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’ 27 Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 He said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 However, he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”
A life of disobedience will keep you from eternal life and everything people have in life will not help them when they face Yeshuwa. He will send them to eternal damnation. However, a life of obedience and righteousness will give you a satisfactory eternal destination when you face your Redeemer.
What kind of life are you living? Is it obedience to Yeshuwa, or one that pleases yourself? Only one leads to eternal life.
Let’s pray: Father, keep me in Your will. Let me praise and honor You with my life in everything I say and do, so that when I see You face to face, You do not turn me away but welcome me into Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
