In the age we live in with prices soaring beyond reason, companies demand cosigners. When you sign your name as a cosigner, you become liable for someone else’s debt if they default on the purchase.

Solomon told the people not to become a surety for anyone; it would be their downfall.

When JEHOVAH put forth His plan of salvation, Satan demanded a cosigner because the price of salvation was beyond mankind’s ability. JEHOVAH knew His Son would need to pay the price with His blood. Yeshuwa suffered so you could have eternal life.

Genesis 3:14 Then JEHOVAH Elohiym said to the serpent, “Because you did this, you are cursed more than cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you will go, and you will eat dust throughout your entire life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you will bruise His heel.”

When you accepted Yeshuwa as Soter and Kurios, you accepted the price He paid for your salvation.

Titus 3:4 But when the kindness and the love of Theos our Soter toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Hagios Pneuma, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Iesous Christos our Soter, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

JEHOVAH made Yeshuwa surety for mankind. When He died on the cross, Satan thought he won and the Soter of the world was dead. However, Yeshuwa rose from death to provide life for you. He paid the price because He knew you couldn’t. What looked like His downfall, became His resurrection and your salvation.

The difference between you becoming surety or liable for someone else’s debt and what Yeshuwa did for you, is that you don’t need to repay Yeshuwa for what He did for you on the cross. For everyone else, you would need to repay the debt.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of Theos, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Your salvation is JEHOVAH’S gift to you. Therefore, you don’t need to repay the price Yeshuwa paid.

Solomon knew what would happen if people became liable for another person’s debt — friendships would end, animosity would bloom in the hearts of those who made the agreement, and you wouldn’t be happy with the purchase, not if you had paid for it without a cosigner.

Yeshuwa is your cosigner. You cannot pay for your salvation. He is the only surety you need in your life.

Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your plan of salvation which made Your Son, surety for my life. I give You praise and glorify Your name for everything He did for me on the cross. Let me never take Your salvation for granted but regard it for the deep bond it gives me with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
