Day 316 – Golden Rule
Proverbs 11:17 The merciful man does good for his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
God’s names:
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Merciful
If you read the headlines, you see both good and bad in this world. One such headline said a teenager planned a school shooting, but her friend tipped off the FBI. Her friend did a good thing in preventing a school shooting, but the teenager who planned it, troubled her life. You might not have noteworthy headlines happening in your life, but it wouldn’t take much to find those who show mercy and those who show cruelty to others.
Solomon said that those who showed mercy did good for his soul. How often do you do things for people because your nature always shows people kindness? The sense of well-being runs high. It doesn’t matter whether the person you showed kindness appreciated what you did, you feel the goodness in your soul. The opposite is also true. Those who always show cruelty bring trouble to themselves.
As Christians, you are to show kindness to everyone, whether they acknowledge it or not. When you do, the sense of well-being comes from Yeshuwa. You know you please Him when you do good for others. Yeshuwa will multiply your blessings when you show kindness. Cruelty comes from one place, Satan. He will do whatever it takes to bring trouble to believers. When they do, they do more harm to themselves than to Christians.
Parents teach their children right from wrong, or they should. When they do, they often quote: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Do you know the Golden Rule is in the Bible?
Matthew 7:12 “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (NKJV)
Do you live by the Golden Rule? Or do you like so many people turn the Golden Rule backwards by saying, “Whatever people do to me, I will do to them.”?
When you live your life in obedience to Yeshuwa, you will always show mercy and goodness to those around you. Don’t let the cruelty of the world cause you to retaliate in like manner. Show mercy and cause your soul joy.
Let’s pray: Father, help me show Your love and faithfulness to those around me. Let Your mercy shine through everything I do and say. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
