Day 338 – The Mouth

Proverbs 12:13 The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous will come through trouble.

14 A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompense of a man’s hands will be given to him.

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise.

  • God’s names:
  • Yeshuwa – Jesus
  • JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
  • Theos – Supreme Divinity
  • Pater – Father
  • God’s character:
  • Righteous
  • Provider
  • Strength
  • Redeemer

People say many things, good and bad. You always hear about the bad things people say. It’s gossip among your social groups. It makes tabloid headlines, and it’s plastered across the Internet. The good things people say lie deeply hidden so that unless you’re looking for it, you’ll miss it.

Solomon was a good study of character. He saw how JEHOVAH blessed what people said as much as what they did. Those who lived righteous lives before Him saw His blessings. Those who didn’t saw His judgment.

Christians can become ensnared by their tongues as much as the rest of the world. James said you cannot tame the tongue.

James 3:2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Theos and Pater, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of Theos. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

As children of Yeshuwa, you are to put a guard on your mouth, think before you speak. When you do, you will receive Yeshuwa’s blessings and people will trust what you say and not condemn you.

David had a lot to say about the mouth and tongue.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O JEHOVAH, my strength and my Redeemer.

Psalm 39:1 (To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.) I said, “I will guard my ways, lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, while the wicked are before me.” (NKJV)

Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O JEHOVAH, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.

When you ask Yeshuwa for help with your tongue, He will grant your request.

Let’s pray: Father, put a guard on my tongue. Help me watch what I say and always think before I speak. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
