Let me tell you what I remember and then tell you what else happened that year.

The month I was born the armistice was signed ending the Korean War. Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in June.

Other events that took place that year.

1. Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin died.
2. President Eisenhower was inaugurated as 34th president of the United States
3. The cold war escalated when the USSR tested the first hydrogen bomb
4. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for espionage
5. In Science and Technology – Watson and Crick revolutionized biology with the double helix DNA structure
6. The corvette was unveiled by GM and remains an icon to this day.
7. Researchers Aserinsky and Kleitman published findings on REM sleep
8. Exploration and Culture – Mount Everest Conquered by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay
9. Playboy launched
10. Fahrenheit 451 published
11. James Bond debuts

A lot happened that year. Of course, I don’t remember any of it happening as I made my debut into this world at the same time all this was going on. The year was 1953.
