In high school, like many people my age, I took the SAT test so I could go onto college. It wasn’t in the books for me. Not a university. However, years later, I attended Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. A two year college instead of four years, but I still had a wonderful college experience. I have my Associate Degree in Architecture. I was also Student Senate President in my last year.
Though it was a two year program, I was in college for four years. I needed those four years for all the math involved in architecture. Math was my weakest suit in school, so I needed to take it slower. One math class per semester instead of the two listed on the program guide. Also because the program was completely filled when I started, I spent one semester in Mechanical Design. It was also a fascinating program.
I never got a job in my degree when I graduated, but as I learned, nothing is wasted. I have a better understanding of architecture and a greater appreciation for the different architectural periods throughout history. I’ve also used what I learned in my writing.
Lest I forget, I also attended a correspondence course from The Institute of Children’s Literature. I did very well with the course. It really showed me a lot about writing. I would have liked to have gotten my MFA, but that wasn’t in the cards for me.
What colleges did you attend? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.
