Day 351 – Wealth
Proverbs 13:7 There is one who makes himself rich yet has nothing; and one who makes himself poor yet has great riches. 8 The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor do not hear rebuke.
God’s names:
Yeshuwa – Jesus
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Iesous – Jesus
Theos – Supreme Divinity
JEHOVAH of Tsaba – Self-existent, Eternal of the armies, hosts of heaven
God’s character:
Provider
Every year Forbes publishes an article about the richest people in the world. You know them before you read the article. Their faces and philanthropic contributions are mentioned often. What you don’t see are the faces of those who don’t have great wealth. Their contributions aren’t even given a mention.
Solomon was among the wealthiest men of his time. He knew the other wealthy people of his time and saw what their lives were like. He had something they didn’t – a relationship with JEHOVAH. He saw what a man would do to safeguard his wealth, while the poor people didn’t have concerns.
Yeshuwa talked about a person’s wealth in parables and what He saw. He said it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven.
Matthew 19:23 Then Iesous said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Theos.”
There are many speculations about an ancient gate in either Jerusalem or Damascus called the Needle Gate that is so small that a person would need to unload his camel of everything to pass through the gate. The interpretation then is clear about what Yeshuwa told the people; they needed to get rid of everything that stood in the way of their salvation.
Yeshuwa also sat at the seat in the treasury and watched what people gave.
Mark 12:41 Now Iesous sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. 42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which made a quadrans. 43 He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than those who have given to the treasury; 44 for they put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in everything she had, her whole livelihood.”
Yeshuwa pays attention to what you give into His kingdom.
Luke 16:19 “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 There was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 Then it happened that the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’ 27 Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 He said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”
When you became a Christian, you fell into one of those categories, you either had wealth or you didn’t. What you did with the wealth you had matters to Yeshuwa. He didn’t say it was wrong to have wealth, only what you did with your wealth. Do you honor Yeshuwa with your wealth, or do you give as the wealthy people Yeshuwa observed at the treasury? If you are poor, do you give to Yeshuwa’s work or do you consider yourself too poor to give? What you give matters to Yeshuwa.
Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (NKJV)
Malachi 3:8 “Will a man rob Elohiym? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says JEHOVAH of Tsaba, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor will the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” says JEHOVAH of Tsaba; 12 And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land,” says JEHOVAH of Tsaba.
When I became a Christian, I knew nothing about tithing until I heard a sermon one Sunday morning. In that moment, knowing I had nothing to spare, I committed my tithe to Yeshuwa. From that day to this, I never failed to give my tithe and Yeshuwa never failed to meet my needs above and beyond what I expected.
What commitment did you make when you became a Christian? Are you one of the wealthy that gives only a portion of your wealth as Solomon talked about, and Yeshuwa observed, or are you one of the poor who gives everything you have, knowing you have nothing else to live on? Are you afraid to tithe because you’re afraid you won’t have enough for your bills and physical needs? Who are you trusting to provide for your needs?
Let’s pray: Father, You know the state of my finances. Help me to give into Your kingdom without worry about what I don’t have, knowing You will supply everything I need for my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
