Day 3 – Soul Food

Proverbs 14:4 Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; but much increase comes by the strength of an ox.

If you ever lived on a farm, you know there are grain silos for the fodder your livestock ate. You also know the hard work that went into growing crops and filling the silos. If you did not do the necessary work to fill those silos, they would stand empty and your livestock would starve. You would not do that to your livestock. You would do whatever you could to keep those silos full.

Solomon knew the work involved in growing livestock. He wasn’t only the king of Israel; he was a landowner and employer.

Ecclesiastes 2:4 I made my works great; I built myself houses and planted myself vineyards. 5 I made gardens and orchards, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. 6 I made water pools from which to water the growing trees of the grove. 7 I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. 8 I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds. 9 So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also, my wisdom remained with me.

Farms still flourish across the country and world to provide food for you to eat. People work so they can buy the food grown by farmers and take proper care of their families.

What happens when you don’t work? Your food pantries and refrigerators stand empty. So does your stomach.

Throughout the gospels, Yeshuwa talked about providing both physical and spiritual food. His parable about the sower is a good example of sowing spiritual food in your lives, with examples everybody understood for growing crops and taking care of their families.

Luke 8:4 When a great multitude had gathered, and they had come to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable: 5 “A sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6 Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. 7 Some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8 Others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

9 Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?”

10 He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Theos, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’ 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of Theos. 12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. 14 Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. 15 But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

When you attend church, Bible studies, and read your Bible daily, you sow spiritual food into your life. Without a daily diet of spiritual food, your soul would wither from malnourishment. It doesn’t do the body any good if you feed your physical body without feeding your soul also; you need both to have a fruitful life.

You know people who claim to be Christians, but their lives show the malnourishment of their soul. The only time you see them is on special occasions, holidays, baptisms, even potlucks. Have you noticed your church is bursting at the seams when food is involved? Grandparents and families of the person being baptized also put on their finery and attend church, not for the sermon, but for the person being baptized. Special events will not provide food for your soul. It remains malnourished because you only give it a taste of what it needs, not the full meal. For your soul to enjoy a full meal, it needs a daily diet of the Word of Theos.

Psalm 23:1 (A Psalm of David.) JEHOVAH is my Ra’ah; I will not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Do you lie in the green pastures of Yeshuwa’s Word? Does He restore your soul with food and drink from His Word? Do you eagerly come to the table to eat from His Word? Is your soul lean or fat?

Open your Bible today, attend church on Sunday, find out when the next Bible study group meets and join it. Feed your soul so it doesn’t become malnourished. If you don’t own a Bible, your church will supply one for you. You can also buy one from your local bookstore. Every bookstore has Bibles for sale, not only Christian bookstores. Your phone comes with Bible apps. Download one today, if you have not done so. You scroll on your phones for everything else, use it to feed on Yeshuwa’s Word also. You have no excuse not to read your Bible or spend time with other Christians, studying Yeshuwa’s Word. Make it your goal to feed your soul and watch how you will grow as a Christian and eagerly attend church and Bible study.

Stop pushing the snooze button on your alarm. Get up and read your Bible. Feed your soul, before you feed your body.

Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word feed my soul daily. Give me a hunger for Your Word as I eagerly set foot in church, attend Bible studies, and feast on Your Word. Let it be my delight and rejoicing. Don’t let me give Satan a reason to rejoice when my Bible remains closed. Let it always be open so I can feast on Your Word with joy. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
